A handicap system? Not sure how that would work. There's some really complicated method used in cricket to work out who wins when it gets rained off, we could do something similar based on how tall it was when it was:
    1) Eaten as spring greens
    2) Eaten by pheasants
    3) Trod on by clumsy teenage son.

I'd forgotten about pigeons, must remember to get some netting over them tomorrow. Mine are getting big, I reckon the pigeons could nest in them :heehee:

Ummm....mine are just growing very slowly and I might have mini walking sticks by the end of the season but cannot see it turning into any thing much bigger. Have not put mine out yet, the plants are still quite tiny.

Haven't planted mine out yet, they're still hardening off. I left them uncovered last night for the first time and there was obviously a snail lying in wait nearby...the postman happened to call just as I was assessing the damage. (letting out an audible wail!!)
There's another person to add to the list of those who think I'm probably not quite all there...

Anyway, damage is relatively minimal I think.

I don't know whether you know this song by one of my favourite satirist/folk singers - Tom Lehrer (professor of mathematics at Harvard). I've been a fan of his for 50 years.

YouTube - Tom Lehrer - Poisoning Pigeons In The Park - now on DVD

His songs were absolutely fantastic - especially for the time. He's still gonig strong, I think, at the age of 83. I heard a radio interview with him last year. :dbgrtmb:
