I'm out. Mines looking very sad at 4 foot & showing no signs of doing anything else. Too battered by the wind.

:scratch:Well I have four in varying sizes & shapes, ranging from 2' to about 4' something, but they don't seem to be doing much now... :D

As you can see, that one has been left to grow without any side shoots being taken off. I've just taken them off and the whole thing looks rather peculiar. The main stem isn't very thick. I suppose it has been putting all its strength into growing those leaves

Tallest one is 7 foot now (sown in March). My second batch sown in April are only 3 to 4 foot.

John, It looks as though you will win the competition. :love30:

Looking at your picture I see that you have put little yoghurt bottles on top of the canes as a safety precaution. If you want something that is not as obtrusive (not that it matters much) I use empty snail shells. :dbgrtmb:

          Well,

I think its time to declare a winner. Looking back, Alice suggested a closing date of 30th September.

There are a few members who started the competition who have not been posting recently, i'll go through and pm/e mail all concerned.

If there are no challenges by 30/9/11 then John will be declared the winner.:hapfeet:

Please measure up for a second and third place too:thumbsup:

I'd already replied to ziggy's PM before coming on here. This is what I've said:-

"I just measured mine from surface of ground to top of top leaf and it's 176cm (5'9").

I couldn't make it any more by standing on tip toe! :( :heehee:"

I could tilt the leaf upwards and make it taller :D

I suppose I could manage to get a photo taken with a tape measure but I'm not sure the numbers would be readable when taking it from a sufficient distance to get the top and bottom in.

Oscar says that I should get him to photograph it as it will look taller from his angle :dbgrtmb: :kittykiss:

I've realised the flaw in the plan as far as i'm concerned, won't be able to measure till the weekend:DOH:

Not that it maters as its only the height of the fence behind it.

That was a month ago, things in the middle of the pic.

If anything it looks shorter now, what with the wind, sheep & stupid pigeons:DOH:
