Searching the net I’ve found Walking Stick Cabbage is also known as the Jersey Cabbage, Dinosaur Kale & Palm Kale.

There seems to be only 2 UK suppliers:

http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk/seeds/pages/vegb.htm (need to scroll down and look for Palm Tree Kale)
    £1.20 for a packet of 50 seeds

    http://www.thompson-morgan.com/vege...leaf-vegetable-seeds/kale-walking-stick/779TM
    £2.19 for a packet of 45 seeds

Plus this chap in Jersey who has some interesting photos of the walking sticks on his website
    http://www.angelfire.com/pa/pwj/walkingstick.html
£3 for 50 seeds includes growing instructions

My preference is to buy from Nicky’s Nursery, I’ve used them before.

I’m thinking each competitor should have 10 seeds each, enough to sow a batch then select the best seedling (or two).

I’ll hang on for a week or two then order 2 or 3 packets depending on numbers entering the competition.

Lets aim to get the seed to everyone before the Christmas post rush.

When I’ve got the seed, entrants must PM me (*** see Edit below ***) to arrange sending a Stamped Addressed Envelope.

For Penny or any other overseas entrants just PM your address and I’ll send you the seed otherwise it might be a bit expensive to send an SAE from abroad.

Does this all sound sensible?

*** Edit: I'll PM all entrants with my address so you can send me a SAE ***

:okies:Don't want anyone to fall fowl of the law John

With Gardeners Corner rapidly becoming the template for a new fairer world democracy, i'd like to point out a few things to help everyone through this competition.

We don't want competetors to fall at the first hurdle, we want everyone taking part to have a result. This is not a village competition where someone might sneak round in the dead of night & "nobble" the opposition.
So how about these points to consider.

#1. Protect the seedlings against slugs & stupid pidgeons.

#2. Its not a food crop (unless you have a sheep & you want to make its wool silky ) So I propose the allowance of spraying against butterflys if you can't net a plant that big.

#3. Its still a brassica, so don't forget the barriers against babbage root fly.:tnp:

    Anything i've forgotten ?

You're a bunch of bullies and I'm going to hide in the corner and cry !!

I figure that there is no way I have the time with all the other projects I've got on. Sorry chaps.

<whisper>JWK if you want to send me 20 seeds I'll stick them under my growing light and send you 10 plants back. My Cannas are already 70cm tall and I think they are only 6 weeks from sowing. Gawd knows how I'll maintain them until Last Frost ...

Yeah, go on Kristen, you know you want to. As they say, if you want something done, give it to someone who is busy already.
