Stowaway to Mars. By John Wyndham.
Afraid to say this is one book I cannot recommend.
    Not one of Johns finest.

I`m sure the Midwich Cuckoos will be a much finer read.

Thats the Midwich Cuckoos finished and I have to report I was dissapointed.
There are some stories that are better suited to the big screen and this is one of them.
Only a 5/10 from me for this one and not recommended.
I am now reading Ray Bradburys Farewell summer

Ray Bradburys Farewell summer now finished and I now know it will collect dust on the shelves for evermore. Shame

Started on Blackhawk down and also gave up on that.
I think its because I have an inbuilt dislike with any modern day war stories. "2nd WW ok but anything newish is just not for me.
It goes back to the days in Malaysia and the Vietnam war and my memories I wish I could forget.

Now reading Hammond Innes The wreck of the Mary Deare
    I shall finsh this one...honest

Now finished The wreck of the Mary Deare by Hammond Innes.
I would rate this as worth reading but I think what spoiled it for me was knowing the ending after watching the movie starring Gary Cooper many years ago.
I have now just started with a Desmond Bagley yarn called Flyaway

    Hi Kathy
I`m not into bodice busters, but I will read a Stephen King.
My all time favorite has got to be Wilbur Smith.
I think I may have nearly all his books in hardback with one of them signed by himself.
It always seems a long, long time between his novels.

    Hi Robert and Peri,

I am just nearing the end of reading Wilbur Smiths book 'River God' not sure if either of you have read this one.:) and yes it was two men and one girl Peri,in the begining and was also a but graphic with the gory details:D

Before this one I read Linda Lear's 'Beatrix Potter' and before that Johnny Kingdom 'A Wild Life On Exmoor' which I found very good.:)

My next book is probably going to be Hunter Davis's 'Wainwright'The Biography seeings as we have just come back from the Lakes:D When I am not reading books I often pick up our OS maps and start studying them, sad or what:hehe:

Peri,it has been a long time since I read and watched the Thorn Birds when it was on the tv quiet a few years ago.I thought Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward were the best to portray the characters of father Ralph de Bricassart and Meggie Cleary:luv: I have them all taped on VHS but haven't sat and watched it for years:(

Have you ever read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin or see the television drama of the same?

Good news is I have managed to source and download a copy of
The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger which is now installed on my Bebook
It is next on my list. The reviews read well and I`m looking forward to it.

I finished Desmond Bagleys yarn called Flyaway.
A good read ranging from the finance centres of London to the burning sands of the Sahara. This story had me guessing right to the very last few pages.
A recommended read from me 8/10

The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
I have now finished this book and what a cracking good yarn.
I would never believe I would hear myself saying that about a love story.
But I read it cover to cover.
I can recommend this book to our readers..

I have now started another Michael Crichton story called Airframe
Only on page 38 at the moment but it looking like a promising read.

The books are flying of the shelves..
Now finished Airframe by Michael Crichton and a really good read it was.
I do suspect that because of my aviation interests it helped me understand the storyline better and to guess the correct ending!

Now into a Desmond Bagley book called Wyatts Hurricane.
So far the story line is centering around the guys who fly the aircraft into hurricanes for research. Looks promishing as theres a little intrigue creeping into the storyline.

Finished Desmond Bagleys book called Wyatts Hurricane.
Fast paced and easy to read this is a cracking good read and would make a great movie.

Now started a book by Lobsang Ramba called The Third eye.
The Third Eye is a book I read about 50 years ago and I recall it had quite an effect on me at the time. I wonder how will would work out this time.

Caps, Bagley was one of the first authors to get me into reading in my early twenties, flyaway was so descriptive of the Sahara desrert.:thumb:

I am in the middle of W. Smith's When a Sparrow falls first of the Courtney trilogy although I have read the other two first!:dh:
    I've always been a bit backward.:D

Natalie was the favourite heroine of Tolstoy. But she wasn't ideal girls of your time! I think Sophy is noble girl.
