Its now over a year since this thread has been visited.
Time for an update me thinks.
Many a book has been read since then so I shall just mention the ones I am reading now.
Remember the TV series "Call the midwife"?
Theres three books written by Jennifer Worth.
    Call the midwife
    Shadows of the workhouse
    Farewell to the East End.
If you enjoyed the TV Call the midwife I can recommend these.
I am part way through the second one and I can tell you I shall certainly finish it and look forward to the third one.
Not exactly enjoyable, but riveting reading you just cant put down. It covers the early years of some of the characters on the TV series.

Awhile back I commented on the books of Matthew Reilly. There is now a new one on the market.
Called "Scarecrow and the Army of thieves" I have it in front of me waiting to be read.
    More about that later.

Whilst on a recent holiday, one of my Daughters bought at the airport
    "The Midwifes here"
    UK's longest serving midwife

Daughter was bored with it chapt 6 of twelve
So over a glass or two I had a glance
First half of first chapter very interesting view of nurses training and college
So I asked my daughter for two's up on it

I got it from her about a fortnight ago, and read it in a day
The first five chapters are good intesting info on life as a nurse training, after training she goes for midwife, and from there on it collapses
To be a midwife they have to have 40 deliveries, plus six of each complication,
From there in it becomes just an "I ticked the box" job of writing

Nurse their is a forceceps delivery in room five you need it for your qual
    Ok I am off
I witnessed the delivery and the Doc signed my book only five more to go

Nurse their is a cesarian in theater you need six for your qual do you want to go
I witnessed it and the Doc signed my book etc etc etc

I have not checked the date of publication, but it appears just a quick buck earner on the back of the TV series
