I have a wasps nest most years behind the climbing Hydranger, theyre never any bother just eat the caterpillars. Nobody knows it's there till the leaves fall, its like a grey rugby ball, they scratch wood off the shed to make the papery walls.

It is without a doubt a lovely furry little bee and has no interest in human beings at all:D Can't say what type as son has gone off with my bee identification chart.

As far as regards wasps I'm very happy to see them about the garden at this time of year as they are on a carniverous diet and help reduce the numbers of smaller insects that want to munch my veg!

I dont know if this is even relevant to your situation :thumb: but in our old house going back about 16 years ago.
We go invaded by a swarm in all our kids then were babies must have been 3, 2 and a couple of months.
We got the council out and the guy knew his stuff :thumb:they had got in the vent and he told us they were all young wasps.
He seemed to think they had got lost and had found a save place in our vent and got rid of them.
My wife was well freaked out when she walked in the bothroom to wash and dress the kids :D
She made a quick exit and rung me at work :hehe: but i dont blame her i hate the little ******s

I had this problem with wasps in the soil last year. I was digging up and disturbed the nest and got stung on the ear (Ouch!)

My ploy to defeat this nuisance (particularly as we have dogs who kept heading for the nest, was to put a hose down the hole and connect it to the HOT tap and then left it running for nearly an hour - standing well back all the time! Then immediately onto the COLD tap for another hour.

Yes it flooded the garden but it certainly did the trick. As the swarms began to down I was then able to dig deep to destroy the nest.
