The main thing I dislike about the government's attitude regarding the energy companies, it's that these same energy co's recently announced that next year, we're all going to face fuel costs rising by another 25%. I cannot believe that anyone with our interests at heart would put up with the energy companies doing this, following rises of more than 100% inside 6 years, not without a fight anyhow. These companies are going to milk the planet, and us along with it, for all we're worth simply because they are free to do it.

While we have wealthy people in government, we are never going to have a fair deal where our energy is concerned. I can see a time when almost every household has a wind turbine at the very least, but I very much doubt that this will be within my life-time.

I think that point is central to all that's wrong with government. If we had a system whereby politicians got a maximum salary of say £30k plus £10k central London allowance (for the increased cost of living), they'd still be on a good wage but not an astronomical wage. Strip away their expenses entitlement to something like what a private sector worker would be allowed, ie a mediocre hotel room for the night when it was impractical to commute, 40p per mile fuel allowance for anything work related that was beyond 45 minutes drive, and £35 per day sustenance allowance (which ironically is what the government recommends), then you'd have people doing the job because it's what they wanted to do, rather than because its how they can make obscene amounts of money at the taxpayer's expense.
