I bought my current watch in Walmart in 2001 and it cost me $5. Actually, Mrs Shiney bought it for me when the watch I had received as a present in 1957 packed up whilst we were on holiday.

I've only needed to put four batteries in it since it was bought and it keeps perfect time. I've had to change the wrist strap once. The original was leather and wore out and this one is a chrome expanding strap. Scrooge is my middle name. :old:

Talking about watches, the clocks go back soon. That's me snookered, I don't know where we purchased ours.:heehee:

I want to put ours back to around 1980 - the world seemed happier back then.

And windups are the best for changing the time. Pull stem, rotate, push back in. No having to get the manual back out to figure out which buttons to operate!

I wear a Seiko kinetic 99% of the time, it's a cross between a mechanical automatic with the accuracy of quartz timing. It's very tough I wear it whilst gardening, swimming and the last few days mixing and laying concrete. It is nothing fancy

Has a lumibrite face so I can read it in the dark. Rear showing the exposed window to see the mechanism

It's like an old fashioned Fitbit because if I have been inactive for a few days it loses it charge, press the button and the second hand shows the amount of charge remaining.

Some enthusiasts have rocking winding gadgets to recharge their collection when not on the wrist.

I also have a 1970s automatic Seiko I got for my 21st, which I always wore until the much more accurate kinetics came along. It's glass crystal face is scratched from when I used to repair cars and I could never find anywhere to replace it.

Also have a smart looking russian automatic, the name escapes me, it can be manually wound up as well, I wear that when going out which isn't very often these days.

I had a collection of clocks, mostly art deco 1930s from jumble sales and ebay. Some I restored. Most I sold and now regret, a lovely grandmother clock and a quirky sycnhronome master clock that once was in a local Dairy and would provide the time signals for slave clocks, they were once used on railway stations etc. I just didn't have the space. I was always on the look out for an Atmos clock, too expensive although many were given to retirees and usually in bad condition and very expensive to repair.

@Nikolaos - fits like a glove! Believe it or not, I can already feel the difference and I only fitted it this morning. Normally by this time of day I would be itching, but nothing with this one as the inside is so soft. Thanks again mate, you really did me a good turn there, much appreciated.

I thought I would update this with a huge note of thanks to @Nikolaos! Take a look at my arm now that it has been treated to a leather strap - the difference is really remarkable.

@Fat Controller Brilliant FC, I was hoping it would help your wrist totally clear up! :blue thumb: I actually have that Softglove lining leather on every one of the straps of the 4 watches I wear regularly, never have any itching, irritation or excessive sweating. It's great for your skin and really comfortable, especially after about a month when the strap has properly broken in! :)

There is one wee tiny bit that is yet to heal, but there is zero discomfort there now - you've really done me a good turn there mate and you know that if I can ever return the favour you only have to say the word.
