I'm going to dumb this down now and admit that I watched The Running Man last night. Truly dreadful and oh so very dated but so magnificently so that I had an absolute ball watching it!

Just watched The Martian (2015), starring Matt Damon.

Whilst watching it, I got the impression that the cast were allowed to freely adlib their lines in order to give their characters depth and a humourous realism.

I particularly liked the character tics and the banter.

The movie was able to give me allium cepa eyes (ahem, specks of dust in the eyes) and countered my 48hr sport antiperspirant (yes, damp pits) from being caught up in the action.

It also featured a segment on ghetto horticulture - growing potatoes on Mars, no less. So, what was there not to like?

      An excellent movie.

Went to see The Big Short. True story of the 2008 global crash. Fascinating film shows how the global financial systems have become a casino for gamblers and the super rich all out for making money. Scary stuff and very sobering considering the state of the stock markets currently.

I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane in the cinema the other week. Very well done, and thrilling!

John Goodman is a much underrated actor. Absolutely brilliant in The Big Lebowski and O Brother Where Art Thou!

I watched Spooks - The Greater Good last night. I loved the series and thought the film would be pants, but I really enjoyed it. Also Django Unchained the other night which I also enjoyed.

Going out tonight to see Miss Hokusai!

The Filmhouse in Edinburgh is big-screening it, and I've heard good things about it, so I'm looking forward to it.

As you know, I rarely watch films but I turned the TV on about 11 p.m. last night and they were showing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I don't know how many of you watched it.

It was OK as something to watch whilst I was having a cuppa :) but I found it interesting the way they combined historical periods, sites and legends and tied them together.

I turned it on just as they were going down a raging river and about to go over the three waterfalls. I recognised the river as I was there 35 years ago. It was the Iguazu River (a tributary of the Parana River) and the fall are the Iguazu falls.

The falls are on the border of Argentina and Brazil. They showed a temple nearby which appeared to be a studio copy of this one in Mexico (was there 10 years ago)

In the film they were talking about all the evidence being in Mayan. The temple was Mayan but the Mayans didn't get to Iguazu :noidea: .

The Aliens (from another dimension) just happened to look like the Peruvian Paracas tribe that lived 2,500 years ago. (Visited the site 8 years ago) They died out only 1,500 years before the Mayan civilisation :heehee:

I still quite enjoyed it. :blue thumb:

What makes you think that I'm interested in ancient civilisations? :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Last night I watched Der Bunker. It is a German comedy horror and it is so far off the wall that Tim Burton and David Lynch would have been proud of it. Quite simply one of the best films that I've ever seen...........

As it's the season of good cheer and all that I decided to put a classic into the DVD player tonight - Blue Velvet..............

I'd forgotten just how good it is.
