Oh Pal it's truely heartbreaking, the only consolation is that no-one was hurt. I'm so sorry for you both.

Mmmm, a lot better than some, but still a lorra work to sort out.You and Lorna have my sympathy - it must hurt to look at all that mess.

Other than the carpet and the tiles, did the walls escape - i.e. you don't have to start stripping plaster off to dry out the brickwork?.

I see what you mean about the fence channeling the water - right little torrent with its scouring effect.

On the up side, your new greenhouse looks intact, though the cold frame looks a gonna and some plants look like they are recovering.

Now if it would just stop raining

What a mess Pal :( I am sorry to see it in such a state.
All that hard work ruined but as Fran said "a lot better than some", certainly doesn`t make it any easier.
Hope your garden gets back on its feet very soon.

If you watch BBC News 24 you can see what it's like just a few miles from here. It now looks as if the water and electric will be cut off..if that happens we will be moving into my Brothers house up in the Cotswolds,he heard the news where he is in France and made the offer to us...
Here I am going across to mate Jordie's house for a cuppa during our rescue missions :D

My parents place in Italy is right in front of a river. They had a flood in 1994 (approx. 1 meter water indoors at the ground floor) and not only that, some of the hill and trees behind collapsed ,and more or less everything was covered in mud, including machinery (for example to work the wood) for thousands of pounds which could never be paid back because the receipts of purchase were lost.
They were awarded by authorities an insignificant amount of money compaired to what they have lost, but the protection on the river banks has been improved a lot since then.
The signs of that flood are evident still today, it takes ages to restore everything and in some cases, if people are very old, they may just don't want to do much about it.
And of course the memories are still there...
I am so sorry to see your situation Nick and I can just suggest not to be in panick so not to add some aggravation to the already bad state of things.
Water can be overwelmingly powerful and dangerous at times, and remind us that earthly possession can vanish in a minute, and there is only so much that can be done to fight it.
But water is also life itself !
I wish you luck...i think it will rain for a few more days.

This just gets worse! Now the Police have been and advised us to watch out for looters snatching water damaged stuff off the driveways and even from out of abandoned houses. They say it's ok to use force in this instance as we would be protecting 'House and Home' It appears cars stranded near here have been broken in to and had gear stolen...They are quite welcome to this ..

Jeez ! That is dreadful Paladin. Didn't you just want to cry ? I would. I tuned into the BBC news today to see that the UK is still taking a battering and that Tewkesbury is cut off. I've a friend in Tewkesbury who lives by the railway line and there is no answer to her phone.

I do hope that she, and you and your family and everyone else in UK stays safe and well and gets over all of this very soon.

I've been paying more attention to the news now and the flooding in England is so awful, that whole great area is a sea. It's mind-boggling and I can only imagine how upsetting it is for all of you who live in these devasted areas. It's good to know that you can go to your brother's house and I hope your property will be safe from looters. Take care, xx
