Oh i'm well aware it is my eating that is causing problems - i'm a major foody person. Alcohol isn't a problem for me, i dont drink much at all, had a few celebrations recently so more than usual by far but that won't stay around, and i'm off the idea now, got the drinkie thing out of my system.

But i must bare in mind that i actually do little or no exercise at all these days. So any exercise is still exercise! I never expect to lose the weight just from exercise though, not with my awareness of how rubbish my diet actually is! But thats going to turn around now no problem!

Geoff your stories are inspirational, and with heart problems in my family, i am trying to lower any chances of inheriting and encouraging any problems that may turn up!

Anyway, after a bowl of special k and a sugar free cup of tea [my only one of the day - usually have about 6! I'll drink green tea for the rest!] then off into my new job for a few hours in town, and do run some errands in town afterwards too.

Then the highly energetic acts of cleaning out 6 enormous rat cages!! That takes about 3 hours, then supposed to go and visit my friends sister and her partner who are over from Holland, so thats more activity i'll make sure i'm jogging n the spot for :D :D :D

Awwrr ouchy! I also heard of this, a friend on teh Scottish paintball team has been suffering. :(

    Our thoughts are wiht you!

Well today i've been a good girl! Drank lots of water, made a smaller chicken dinner with rice, had one cup of tea, one green tea, a bowl of special k, a slim fast shake, and got off the bus a few stops early going to walk and on teh return journey too!

Not a bad start for me!

Well done Whiley on making a start especially now we are nearing the festive season.

I would reccomend all that has previously been advised but you would be better to have porridge for breakfast with some chopped fruit on top instead of sugar.I ususally have either grapes or strawberries.

Drink plenty of water before during and after any form of exercise.Drinking when you feel thirsty is too late because if you wait until you feel like you need a drink your are already dehydrated.

A good start is to do it slowly so that you don't lose too much weight too soon. There are 3,500 calories per 1lb of fat.Try to aim for losing no more than 2lb per week, though in the first couple of weeks you will be losing water first and then fat afterwards.

Don't forget to warm up at the start of your exercises and also to warm down when you finish.Trying to do too much with cold muscles could cause problems

If you cut down on the calories to far then the body will start to store fat because it will think you are starving it and not trying to lose weight.
I find that brisk walking every day helps and once you are begining to get fitter you should be able to walk along and hold a conversation with another person without getting breathless.

A young woman in our village has just lost 3 stone over nine months by joining Weight Watchers and power walking round the village. You don't have to join a slimming club though as with a sensible diet and the support of everyone on here you should achieve your goal...

    Good Luck [IMG]

Hi Kathy3 ... so sorry you've been ill but I have noticed your absence and don't think you needed to lose so much.

I would like to lose a few pounds again over the winter (easier with me) but I think I'll come up with more conventional ways ... besides aerobics and the elastic band and wrist and ankle weight, I like chillies and spaghetties and roasts ... I burn it off easier than I do salads. [IMG] Must get that mountain bike out again as well.

Hope you are feeling better soon. [IMG] xx

Diets are not good, eat what you like just cut down on the amounts (I am assuming you have a sensible balanced diet)take up excercise gradually, brisk walking, get yourself a static cycle trainer for when the weather is bad, you can listen to your music while you pedal away, make it part of your daily routine enjoy doing it don't make it a chore.

Whiley I do wish you well with your diet.

I used to be a very BIG girl indeed I lost so much weight(six dress sizes in the last 18 months) through careful eating and loads of exercise.

I'll still a BIG girl size 18 bottoms but I'm happy the size I am although the doctors keep saying I need to loose even more weight but I would look so silly being smaller as I have swimmer's shoulders and very big boobs no matter how well I did with the diet I couldn't lose much from my boobs....it's even down on my medical cards that my boobs play a big part with my back problems....you've gotta laugh at that! :D

[IMG] Hey Whiley, just caught up with this thread.. I think the advice BM, Geoff, Walnut & kandy have given is excellent.. I too think diets are not necessarily the way, but they have all given you sound advice.. Take it steady to start with... [IMG] You will manage it I am sure... [IMG] AGs recipes look good too.. [IMG]
[IMG] BTW, which job did you get?? [IMG] All the best & I shall keep a look out in here now to see how you are doing. Bet some more of us will join in after the festive season..!!!! :D :D
