I'm not very clever with this sort of thing but could it be honey fungus and a shrub of some sort was there and removed but the offending soil not removed?

I say this because in Bucks with a ?????? shrub and here in Portugal with a Buddleia brought from the UK I got honey fungus and the shrubs died virtually overnight. My Sis Kedi-Gato can confirm this as she was the one who discovered the Buddleia here one morning ... it having been perfectly beautiful the night before. Her hubby dragged away a 3 metre tall shrub that collapsed overnight (my t'other half wasn't quite into doing such but I'm working on it ....).

Anyway, what was left was a white gooey substance in the ground which we .... Sis's hubby and I removed and then put Armitallox in the soil and I waited six months before I replanted ... which is where the wonderful Myoporo is now ..... :gnthb:

Just a thought from a couple of bad experiences with such.
