    Hi spike
The flower at the side is a paeony and yours is very nice.

    I have two suggestions.

1 Bung in some summer bedding plants if you want some easy colour all summer.

2 try to get rid of some of the dandelions in the lawn or you will be fighting to stop them flowering for the rest of the year.

You have done brilliantly so far and i hope that you are all enjoying the results.

Ah, dandelions... annoying buggers. I've tried mowing them down, spraying them, pulling them up, even digging some out, but they keep coming back!! Aaargh!

"Feed and weed" Spike, "Feed and weed".
Pop down to B&Q and get some.

The fight with the dandelions continues on the lawn (still haven't had time to get to B&Q), but I seem to be winning, slowly. The good news is that I had a surprise recently: the two shrubs in front suddenly burst into flower!

They now look like this (and this in close-up)! Cool.

Out back, Biscotte has been exploring the flowers and also checking out her new house that I built out of an old Ikea wardrobe! Very pleased with myself for the result, especially given how crap I am at DIY!!

The house number, by the way, is 24 (same as ours), but in France they do addresses like '24b' as '24bis'... and given that her name is Biscotte, it seemed appropriate!

    Hi Spike
Good work! keep it up! Tip for the rat stuff - pop it in the compost bin, to rot down first, and keep an eye on the those blackberry plants - turn your back for a min and they will try to take over! Love the paeony in the last pic - gorgeous colour!

Oh my you are getting to grips with this garden, I loved Biscotte's new chill out area - well done, it looks very good.

The front shrubs are unfamiliar, so can not help identify, but the pink flowers look like a variety of Oxalis - no doubt a courteous variety, cos some can be thugs.

I'd noticed that with the blackberries: the water leak from next door ran right by them adn they've grown by a couple of feet in every direction! Crazy plants...

It's funny you should say that, actually...

    --
Act 1, Scene 1: an appartment in Paris.

Spike enters, stage right, coming home from work. He hangs up his coat, drops his computer bag and walks into the living room. He stops dead, staring at the middle of the floor where there is an unexpected kitten.

Spike: There's a cat in the living room.

Sophie, on the sofa, says nothing, but looks worried.

Spike: There's a cat in the living room.
    --

That's how it happened. Of course, she knew I love cats, but I was not consulted at all. Thankfully, Biscotte is adorable. [IMG]

And there was me thinking I was among friends :D
All I do is show her a nice pic of a moggie and as soon as I turn my back, the lady who can't use a mobile phone , becomes a hacker!!
I wondered why she was so keen for me to get out and try to master the digi' camera.
Actually, I like cats ,but can't bear the hurt when they "leave" us.
Oh well...'spose the persuading bit would be fun, wonder how long I can hold out????

    Nick
