hello have just found this sight and am hoping you can answer a question.I am considering having my garden hedge removed and am wondering if it would not regrow if it was only sawn off at base or does it need digging out by the root to prevent regrowth and if so how deep are the roots and could I dig them out or will i need a professional. Thanking you in anticipation of your early reply. autumnblossom

    [IMG] Hi Autumnblossom,
Welcome... :D You have asked several questions there, but before we can answer we need to know what sort of hedging are we talking about?? Country type which could be a mix of hawthorn, blackthorne, Elder. hazel etc. Or are we talking a town type with say maybe private, laural, box or beech. Or even a mix of shrubs..... Or even the dreaded conifer... So what have you got.?? [IMG] An awful lot of hedging will re-shoot if the roots are left in the ground. Do You want a hedge at all??? Would be my next question..?? You could get a professional in, but get a few quotes first & go for the ones offering free quotes as well.. They could tell you about the stumps & you could make up your mind whether to have them ground out or left & poisoned. (They would usually do this in a safe way by drilling the stumps & pouring a powerfull weedkiller in & then bury the stumps) You would need to phone around for that for quote as I say, but it shouldn't take them long to do the work.... :D Hope that is some help for a starter.... ;)

    Welcome Macleaf
I don't think Nathan had any idea when he started it last year that it would be this successful, over 2000 members, thats a lot of knowledge we can share.
