Thanks for the welcome Fran [IMG]

    It is a great forum!

(Dont be too sure about no question being daft though :D .

For instance, If it rains soon after I have fed the garden with a water soluble fertilizer, do the nutrients get washed away?

No Berry, not unless its a complete deluge, minutes after feeding before it has a chance to perculate down, and washing away the surface. In fact rain can be quite helpful in getting the feed to the roots. And no that question is not daft its one I asked when I started.

Skelf - welcome, I know exactly what you mean - I have been waiting soooo long for a web site like this, and a lot of gratitude to Nathan for setting it up.

Hello everybody, I'm new and have ahd my garden for a wee while but although I love it I am still really unsure so I joined up to your great site.

Still looking around and wondering about protocols etc, cos I have LOTS of questions to ask.

For example If I search for a subject eg "delphiniums" and find a response that is a couple of months old, is it ok to post a reply straight on to that, or should I start a new one?

Just dont want to get in the way or on peoples nerves. Look forward to posting to you lots. Maybe I can even help out .....

    [IMG] Hi Gazania,
Welcome, it is a great site you are right. Plenty of people to help. If you see a thread & the answer you want is there, no probs you can either post on that but perhaps better to read it & put up your new post to be sure of an answer if very old, but most of us tick the box for replys, so I think they still come in. Sure you won't get on any nerves. The more the merrier. [IMG]

I am new to this site... still trying to get my head round how the computer works let alone how the garden grows or not..

I am on the edge of an old sand pit.
The soil just doesnt hold the nutrients, when it dries it its just like being on a beach. But I continue to try to get things to grow

Am hoping to start vegie garden in near future so any advice on raised beds, i.e size, depth etc would be most welcome. Also anyone with experience of gardening in the frozen north  please let me know of plants(perrenials) that will survive my winters
