    I've had the same when reeling in a pouting. A Bass thought he'd take a big chunk out of it, hell of a thump.

    Did you know "Stour" is from the Welsh word Dwr, water. Thats why there are so many of them.

    Hi Ziggy, no I didn't know that. I guess most places or rivers etc have origins to their names.

    The lad said that some of his mates have given up on the fishing because of the weather and have gone onto the golf course instead. Wouldn't think that was as much fun myself personally when it is windy and wet, but each to his own. All the more fish for Steve and his mates that have stuck with the fishing.

        Hake, oh. Don't get those down here. Oops, wouldn't have guessed the perch, isn't that a freshwater species ?

        Are the Hake what we in the south would recognise as Rock Eel. That was what I was told in Birmingham on a visit once.

        The lad has moved onto sea fishing from Polperro on his mates commercial fishing boat. Alright for some!

        hake is a member of the cod family,got a box full today of them :yess:, the red fish are definately salt water fish and again are deep water,no the hake are not known as rock eel :scratch:
