I'm probably tempting fate here and you may be surprised, but I've never seen a vine weevil! They must be here on the island but I haven't seen one in the twenty years I've lived here. :)

we had real problems with weevils for a good few years, we have a lot of potted plants & the vine weevil's just had a field day in them! (they do the most damage to potted plants apparently) the last straw was when they absolutely destroyed my mums lovely big Gooseberry bush, that was it...it was war after that :nonofinger: :paladin: we don't use any chemicals of any description in our garden so it was nematodes all the way! :dbgrtmb:

Well done, honeybunny! It's not easy to get rid of them using nematodes 'cos the temperature has to be just right....

Found my first vine weevil larvae of the year today, and ordered my nematodes this afternoon. I used the nematodes last year, and it seemed to sort the evil weevil for that growing season. I've lost loads of plants to them, but last year I dont think I lost anything.

I think the rule is if the soil is above 5 degrees you can use the nematodes. I've been planting into my raised bed, and my containers, and the soil felt warm, so I'm going to risk using the nematodes when they turn up next week. I can't leave the evil weevil much longer, the plant I found them in was looking proper sorry for itself.
