Didn't get much done over the weekend just dug up some Aster Jenny which was taking over , planted a few on the garage site and got some potted up for giving away .

Interested to see how you go on with the pergola @Loofah

Picking some salads and the last of the spinach, killing slugs, wondering what I will grow instead of courguette and squash and corn and beans as they are all getting eaten faster than they can grow.

I have just weeded all along outside my fence on the pavement. Very annoying to think that I have to pay the council to take away their weeds!

Well you could compost them and deduct from the council tax before sending an invoice to the council...

Just managed to clear yet more plants from taking over another path in between the rain showers. Very wet out there and hoped to cut the paths in the orchard....no chance.

Weeding another flower bed, hubby went to the garden centre to get some grit to put around my cosmos plants to stop the slugs hopefully.

A Geranium Johnson’s Blue has been going mad in my garden as it’s close to a Catalpa which I pollarded in February and added lots of Blood Fish and Bone to the area to encourage growth. The Geranium’s been getting untidy and too big so I gave it a Chelsea chop, divided it and used it to fill a problematic space in an east facing border. I’ve replaced it will a small bronze leaved Phormium called Bronze Baby which has similar tones as the new leaves on the Catalpa and will be added interest over winter. I’ve also discovered a more upright variety of Erigeron karvinskianus called Stallone (can’t see the resemblance!) and got two today to fill some gaps in my front garden along with a shrubby Salvia, Amethyst Lips which I’ve grown before. It’s less brazen than Hot Lips and a long flowerer, with leaves smelling strongly like blackcurrant which I like. I also put a Dahlia Bishop of Llandaff in a large pot, already in flower, but that’s down to the glasshouse at the nursery where I bought it on Saturday! Here’s the Phormium backlit in this evening’s sun:

Bit of weeding, digging and tidying today.
Also bought and installed supports for the Harlow Carr roses as the rain has caused them to flop over.

Now trying to come up with a suitable flowering evergreen that doesn't require acid soil, to replace an old rosemary.

Maybe a choisya? I’m seeking a similar solution in a sunny border that needs something to prevent ‘bareness’ in the winter.

Not a lot. It is raining.

Son has returned to Canada so time for me to take a deep breathe, a very long breath out, and relax.
It is such hard work being on best behaviour and bright and breezy for visitors. I am tired out. Feet up and a cuppa

Yesterday I helped a friend with her garden, lifting bulb baskets (not an easy job, the roots had almost reached Australia!) and planting up the bed with home-grown annuals. Her health makes gardening ever more difficult for her, and I can't promise to be able to do it all for her so she's having a last summer blast of colour and then getting shot of most of her plants and gravelling everything, sad but necessary. She's keeping a raised gravel bed though which has alpines in at the moment and can accommodate some of her lavenders and her beloved aquilegias with a little reshuffle, and I have my eye on half-inching her spirea Little Princess at the end of the season!
Back at home I planted out some remaining odd annuals and moved all the rest (mainly cosmos and zinnias) from the greenhouse into the cold frame to harden off.
Don't think there will be any gardening done here today, it's raining again. Dazzle and I are sniffing this afternoon, hoping for a break in the weather!
