I look forward to seeing it all in bloom.

I got a Philadelphus virginalis Double a couple of months ago but it is only about 50cm tall so I am willing it to grow in this heat!

I've not done much either apart from our usual walk and two loads of washing. Finally got out at midday, picked blackberries, dug up another two potato plants (pleased with the harvest) and then did some deadheading.

After lunch I went mad and bought one of those egg hanging chairs on special offer as I have always wanted one. Goodness knows however if I'll ever find the time to sit in it!

I've been doing a lot of weeding and tidying up (Mrs Shiney has done twice my amount) and we've filled three wheelie bins today. It has suddenly turned very warm and close and clouded over. I've been chased in by flying ants all over the garden.

On Monday I reduced the size of a three stemmed Bay tree in my mixed hedge border from 12 feet to 4 feet. I bought it about 10 years ago as a tiny plant in the container plants section at a garden centre. It went into the border after the first year and just kept growing! Last year I had difficulty pruning it and fell off a ladder in the process :thud:, harming only some perennials nearby fortunately. I filled up a wheelie bin with the three cut trunks and foliage. Today I reduced the size of the three clumps of bamboo in the same border, taking all the spindly, discoloured and damaged canes out. I then trimmed all the twigs and leaves off the bottom third of all the canes to allow more light into the border below and reveal the colour of the canes which are yellow with green stripes, plus some red colouring. This filled another bin, they’re both full now so I can’t do anything else until they’re emptied next week .

I can't be ... bothered/don't have the energy to look into this. But is it possible on here to use this thread to pull out your own answers into something like Excel or Word to document and date exactly what you did and when throughout a year?

I really don't know the answer to that apart from the tediousness of going through it and copying and pasting it into a document.

The search facility may shorten the amount you have to plough through.

My daughter wants one of those for her flat @Goldenlily26 ! The type with a base rather than the suspended ones. She's going to think about it later on in the year. I told her August is often when lots of garden furniture is on sale, but I think many are reduced now because sales have been poor, probably due to the irregular weather in some areas.

I got quite a lot done yesterday, after my walk, shower, and the usual tidying etc indoors. Last bit of concreting - [for now!] some potting on of various small plants, a couple of additions applied to the green roof on the ground bird feeder, grass and front hedge done, a temporarily potted Ligularia planted out, and one of the dahlias moved into it's pot for standing next to the back door steps. The bed beside the shed forked over ready for the compost bin contents. Deadheading of various things, and some general bits and bobs.

@cactus_girl that link was to @DiggersJo page that @Loofah referred to doing. Maybe when a search is done only that person can access it. Tried to save him the trouble :noidea:

A 5ft high Salvia turkestanica ended up as a 5ft long one as the weight of it had made it fall over although the stem is nearly 3/4" thick. So I was delegated to put in a support. Sounds easy but the ground is still too hard to just push in a support.

I have some really solid private canes that I use so tried a 3/4" thick one, cut with a pointed end, and managed to push it 8" into a nearby crack in the soil. It worked :hapydancsmil:

flying ants seem to have gone - or haven't come out to play yet.

Thank you. I was just thinking it could help people to document their year, and of course generate many more posts on the thread.

Dug up some volunteer moolis. Some ok but most woody. Picked our first dwarf french beans all 6 of them! Rotten germination. Weeded in the polytunnel and harvested some more kale and pak choi. Cleared another area outside and sowed some more new moolis.
