Same here @fairygirl -I'm having toms for 2 meals daily not counting the odd ones I pick when watering :heehee:
The same goes for my lettuce, radishes and spring onions "the saying eat 5 veg a day has been well exceeded in my case, so I am trying to reducing the sowing by using 6 inch plant pots and not being too heavy handed when sowing!

I can only suggest using white vinegar and white sugar when cooking a green tomato chutney as malt vinegar and brown sugar will colour anything it is used in. Also spices will colour a chutney and long cooking will also darken chutney. I made some runner bean chutney a couple of years ago which kept its colour well so it should be possible to make a green tomato chutney. Another ploy is when making gooseberry jam, to cook it in a copper pan, there is a chemical reaction between the fruit and the copper which gives the jam a rich green colour instead of the red colour. I was disqualified from a show once because the judge said I had used green colouring in my gooseberry jam! Using a copper pan might work with green tomatoes, I haven't tried it, did your Mum have a copper preserving pan?

Don't think much will get done outside today again, unless it is showers rather than rain. I have plenty of things I can do inside though.
I might even look at those tomatoes - not sure when I last looked at them, although it may have been at the weekend when they had a comfrey feed.
At least only one pot got cowped in the wind, but I might move a couple before the serious stuff comes in tomorrow afternoon.
I may even start doing the inside section of the shed if I can put a few things outside. Glad I got the gutter done on the shed yesterday, and I might conjure up some bits of netting/chicken wire doofers to prevent leaves getting in and clogging it all, especially as it's next to the conifers.

As I was only 12 at the time I wouldn't have been interested on which pans my mum was using, and looking back my mother would have been making the chutney while we were at school - I could make a lovely apple pie at that age and loved to always make it on a Sunday

"I will definitely use white vinegar this time round- thank you"

Deadheaded the pot marigolds, watered the hanging baskets.
It rained today so didn't have to water the polyanthus.

I have weeded the tomato pots, removed side shoots missed a couple of days ago and watered the pots again. Very windy but no rain. It is supposed to be arriving tomorrow, Wed.

Finished weeding between the patio slabs and helped hubby cut back the currant bushes in the back garden.

Day of rest today, except for clearing leaves dropped by trees stressed through lack of rain.

20240821_140651.jpg I moved that 21 kilo slab that ruined my gutter guard picture along with 11 others just like it. Then lugged the 23 kilo bags of compost up onto the deck, then one of those down to the cellar.

I figure between yesterday and today, I've finished most of this year's heavy lifting. :)

Yesterday, because it looked silly, I extended that wee garden up front by 20 feet. The plants in the new part are recovering from division and transplanting so it is easy to see where the new started.

Yes, @Victoria it is my fence. The gates at both side of the house are doubles so that they both swing inward to allow easy mowing. The old garden stopped about a foot short of the fence. I'll have a lot more populating that space next year. :)

Haven't been up to much recently in the garden busy working I got myself a motor a couple of weeks ago but I've done a bit of general potter round the garden / watering / feeding and I trimmed the beech hedge at weekend. Got a few projects on the horizon I sprayed the lawn / killed it to start again I'll be reseeding it , that will keep me busy for a short while , And I am putting more stone flags down round the back of the house removing a small batch of grass that always seems waterlogged

I've had no chance of getting into my new garden as yet - with the exception of mowing the lawn and putting up a new bird feeding station. Hopefully next week I'll be able to spend a little time out there and also produce some pictures for you all. It's very different to my last garden. :)

Yes @Perki, three weeks ago. My health is not what it was and it became to much for me to cope with so it made sense to downsize. Now in a village location, I miss the view but not the deer - it looks like I've swapped those for slugs.
