We have a red storm warning due any moment so I dashed out this morning to try and empty 4 or 5 buckets/trugs of topsoil back onto my sleeper bed. Unfortunately one of my plastic sheets had blown partly off so one bucket was half full of water - mud pies anyone? Managed to do it all apart from one garden cart full so I've covered that back up with a large brick on it. Hope it stays on.

Took advantage of the calm before the storm to dig out a small flowerbed around my new Hamamelis and plant the last 10 of my Ballerina tulip bulbs in it.

I hope the storm is milder than expected, @lizzie27 and you don't have any damage.

It was a mild sunny day in Dordogne today. This afternoon I weeded half the donkey paddock fence bed and I mulched the gazebo bed and half the orchard fence bed.

Thanks @Busy-Lizzie. You're working hard on your French garden and will soon have it looking to your satisfaction. I haven't done any mulching yet or cutting back.

I have had a quick check round to make sure there's no damage from the wind - nothing found, Filled up the bird feeder and I'm now back inside next to the radiator and a cat.

I won't be going outside today. The strong wind and horizontal rain have trashed another tall grass, snapped some bamboo and removed most of the leaves on my Acer. Clean up planned for tomorrow :).

I've had to run up the garden to rescue a sheet of perspex I thought I'd secured - obviously not well enough. Put it behind the shed where I should have put it yesterday. A few plastic pots blowing around but they can wait, otherwise we seem to have got off lightly - at least the fences are still holding and the trees still upright! A 50 ft birch within 3 metres of the house is not a cheery sight.

Had 2 fence panels and post replaced earlier in the week. An adjacent post has fallen over taking one of the new panels and destroying it! Another panel has completely exploded onto my neighbour's lawn. I'm not doing anything to clear them until it settles - it's still very windy, and no power till midnight tonight (theoretically)

How annoying! But still, it’s only stuff, you weren’t hurt. Much sympathy though, and I hope the electricity is soon back on
(About thirty years ago a car body shop chap said ‘it’s only a bit of tin’ (when someone had driven into the side of our parked car), to emphasise that we weren’t hurt and we’ve used the phrase since)

What a shame, agree that at least you are safe. The storm had abated here from about midday, but sitting here now we can hear big gusts of wind again so it seems to be coming round for a second go. Some years ago our car rear hatchback screen and bodywork was damaged when a lump of tree was blown down. The tree is not there anymore, at the time I had a big row with insurance and the council as the tree had a large split in it and a fungus growing out of it. I didn't get anywhere trying to claim off the council.

@Allotment Boy - claiming from council? No chance!
Apparently the message that says 12 pm Sunday actually means midday. :mute:
                          Oh well.
As @Golarne says " it's only a bit of tin" (actually thin bits of timber)
Sitting here with lovely log burner using up old logs, gas lamp, large G&T, animals all safe, greenhouse unharmed. It's ok...
