Finished off pricking out seedlings into toilet roll tubes and cell trays.
Did the rest of the marigolds and cosmos in the toilet roll tubes and verbena bonariences in the cell trays.

It has been really Spring like today. l planted a rose "Queen Elizabeth" (the 1954 variety) and a couple of salvia "Caradonna", shifted some clumps of campanula and potted up some bits and bobs for a charity plant sale later this year.

One of the benefits of having had so much rain is that l can actually dig down far enough to remove quite a few Spanish bluebells.

I'm lucky enough to have a very tame female blackbird who takes great delight in watching what l'm doing. She generally has a fine time fossicking in the flower beds close by me.

Another bout of cutting back dead stuff, thinning out forget-me-nots and hoiking out spanish bluebells. Interestingly, not too many weeds to pull out, just a bit of hairy bittercress and that stuff that looks like hairy chickweed. Also planted out the last of my potted bulbs (Narcissus "Thalia" ).

Only managed to go outside in the glorious sunshine for about 15 mins as a quick break from work. Was lovey to see the sun.

@Bozzie I wouldn't say renovating the garden just improving I've been here forever and a day, my greenhouse is just to the right I fear for my seedling lives carrying them to the house walking down the grass slope when its wet , when it snows :hate-shocked:

Had a couple of good days in the garden.
Got a bunch of seed sowing done.
First grass cut off the year.
              Fed all my roses.
Placed as many of my tulip pots as possible without disturbing the daffs.
Planted a bag of Purple Sensation bulbs I found (waayyyyy late, but better in than out, eh?)
Tied a new clematis into its new obelisk home.
Planted a few Foxgloves I dug up a while back in their new spots.

I will sieve some compost ( not my favourite task) and feed my roses too.

Sunny here and breezy so did more than I should have clearing more old stuff and deadheading daffs. My back is now killing me. We never learn, do we. Or at least, I don’t.

The bare rooted 'Meteor' rose arrived this morning, I only ordered it last Friday. Ordered cos of a heads up from @wiseowl [thank you]. I had just the spot for it on a corner of the centre flower bed, it's job is to stop our dog taking a shortcut over the 3m x 2m bed which causes damage to plants and muddy paws brought into the house.

Meteor was planted with all the luxury of being the RHS 'Rose of the Year' for 2024. Big hole was dug, then filled with a mixture of fresh compost and soil, a handful of Mycorrhizal Fungi powder, and a couple handfuls of FBB. Wanted to place banana skins at the bottom of the hole, but I'm afraid they were fed to the worms this morning. Meteor was then planted up to it's graft and watered in.

Planting the rose was then responsible for me tackling the whole bed, turfing out weeds, loosening and freshening the soil. FBB was scattered over the area with merry abandon. Bed was then treated to an inch or so covering of compost. A few twists of the Hori Hori knife over the soil gave the area a bit of a stir. Pleased the bed is now ready for the annuals.

Does going out to scare off the pigeon pecking at my greengage blossom count as gardening?

Would that be out of general concern for your seedlings or from bitter experience?
