I love California poppies @Logan The bright yellow and orange ones now grow wild on the banks of a new ring road round Talmont St Hilaire, a small town about 20kms away.

i prefer the more subtle colours and have a dusky deep pink one growing well and have sown some ivory ones.

That's so very sad. It really boils my p**s the way people disrespect nature so much. :frown:

Managed at last to transplant out the dwarf broad bean seedlings. In a Wilko pkt with average 20 seeds but had 25 all germinated. Good return. Made a better support for a runner loganberry from a parent plant given to us by friends 40 years ago.

A nice sunny, dry day but I’ve been out for most of it to avoid the chaos and noise next door as the work on my neighbours’ new driveway was completed. A big plus was that the workers spent most of the morning jet washing the road and pavement in front of my house after another neighbour complained about the mess!

All I’ve done in the garden today is trim the Griselinia hedge alongside my seating area. I’ve only ever used secateurs to do this, resulting in a dense green screen which is now about six feet tall, making the area completely private. I also had a chance to sit there for a few minutes after the workers departed. Now we can all relax, calm prevails!:yay:

Took the lawn mower out the shed the other day, not to cut the grass as it’s not stopped raining, but to see what state it was in. It was put away on its last legs at the end of last year and when I pulled it out the other day my fears were realised, the rust has got the better of it. So today it was a trip to buy a new one, a Honda Izy. Just need a dry spell so I can use it.

I had one of those. Ran perfectly from day one, excellent performance right up until years later the deck disintegrated. I thought it a great mower

Had a good gardening session today. Got the grass mown, did some weeding, planted out some plants that were in pots from my old garden. Moved a few other plants into better locations. Made a potting table area at back of garden and moved some outdoor furniture about. Could have quite happily carried on all day but had to go out at 3.30. Getting outside in the sun and gardening has made me feel so much better today.

We have visitors still, but I took time off from doing jigsaws with the 3-year-old to pot up the plants from Farmer Gracy (in Holland) which were delivered this morning. Some of them are fine, but others have suffered, probably from being in transit for longer than ideal, over a holiday weekend. The lupins had quite a lot of mouldy roots...

Have gone through various stages of revamping this godawful front "garden" but finally getting there now. Took the trellis off the raised beds as they looked like hotel twin beds or graves :roflol:

@fumanchu, I love your alpine bed! I'm going to my favourite nursery this morning armed with a list I made over the weekend of alpines I would like!

I'm very fond of alpines too and I'd have lots more than I already have but alas, no space for them.
@Ladybird4, happy shopping. Tell us what you buy!

Battled the wind to fill the bird feeders and dishes, then chuckled watching Simon the acrobat wood pigeon fall off a branch trying to reach a hanging feeder. He's very good at getting at them though, last year he'd shuffle carefully sideways down a bendy twig, and flap one wing while he ate a bit of seed, before falling off and starting the process again.

 Sowed the first of my seeds today! Bit later than usual and as it’s windowsill only for germination, I have decided to start the tomatoes and courgettes and will do flowers, and any other veg, later this month. I’ve sown two varieties of toms - a Cherry and a Tumbling Tom for hanging baskets/pots.
