Thank you for your suggestions @Robert Bowen. Our car boot will only take about 3 black bags so I expect a jumbo bag may not fit so I would have to measure up. Yes, we always put an old sheet or bin bags down first as sometimes unexpected liquids will escape! We have very big slugs here and hubby has such a phobia (and worms too - phobia that is) that he could never pick one up or even look at it! So it's best left to the council. Last year we had a bulky collection of 20 green bags for £45. I have just paid up for another year and hope the bin men finish their strike before March.

At the beginning of February everything was ahead of itself, however the cold weather especially with the wind have stopped things in their tracks.
In the greenhouse though some things are still ahead of themselves and leafing up earlier than usual or haven't died down as they might be expected to do.

Went on a half day fruit tree pruning workshop at Berrington Hall today , one of our local National Trust properties. Useful experience learning from the head gardener and rubbing shoulders with others who wanted to learn about pruning. There is just something satisfying about being outdoors with a pair of secateurs although a bit daunting cutting bits off of a collection of heritage apple trees.

Hubby did a bit of weeding and started pruning the roses, he's done 1 so far, it's too cold.

Well everyone...you are all so amazing in the amount of work you have been doing in your gardens. We have done little in comparison. Why? Wet and cold weather doesn't suit us and even sowing veg seeds seems a waste of time at the moment, just too cold. But again well done all.

Today I moved the bird feeder so that it's not quite as close to where my new mini pond is going. This involved lifting paving slabs, but no cementing as they are all loose anyway!
Inside I sowed some seeds in my new windowsill propagator - aubretia, lupins, cosmos, lobelia, viola and another I can't remember. I bought a plastic potting tray from B and Q yesterday so not quite as much mess as usual.

:doh:I have just dismantled mine (inherited).

If you need a weatherproof kennel big enough to house a medium sized buffalo, just pop around. Or about 50 paving slabs.

1739826998005775831985.jpg I started my annual Salvia seeds in soil blocks today. The dining room window area is full so I'll need to start piling up the trays throughout the rest of the house. My 20250217_162406.jpg indoor, heated, lighted area is only about 28 square feet so I have to get creative about finding other window areas that have room for the next lot.

I have the week off. So thought I crack on in the garden, with it being cold and I’m just getting over a cold, I felt leaden and everything was such an effort. I only managed to empty the hot compost bin and recycle it and plant up some pansies in a pot and I felt done.
