I've been sowing seed of things that need winter temp variations. All now in the cold section of greenhouse. Tried resoldering connections on my heat pad thermostat, but no joy - so ordered new.

I went out yesterday at around 15:30 the rain had stopped and it was quite warm. I bailed about 30 litres (3 large buckets) of water out of the patio pond, it was about to overflow.
Too wet to do anything today.

I had a wander around the snow covered garden and filled up the bird feeders. Noticed that a rose in a pot was brimming with water so I have tipped it on it's side for the moment. I'm debating whether to get dressed properly (I was in my dressing gown before) and sort it out or leave it for better weather. Probably the latter!

@katecat58 , you ought to read Helen Yemm's book 'Gardening in your Nightie'!

It's quite funny, I started re-reading it last night.

More sweeping of slush off steps this morning and removing the snow off the tree fern. It didn't look too happy this morning. That's enough snow now thank you!

Not doing much at the moment outside, just feeding the birds.

Nothing doing here either, it's a wonderful, monochrome world!
It snowed more overnight and snow is 6 inches deep and still snowing heavily now. The mist is down, I can just about see the far side of the big pond, but the 5 Trees, the sheep paddock. the forest and the hills have all vanished!
The Fo dog on the end of the terrace wall has a robin on his head, the only bit of colour:smile:
The trees look beautiful, but are heavy laden and the larch branches are bowed to the ground, their ends buried. The snow has drifted, making it perilous to walk anywhere as steps and walls have vanished, as if by magic, and there is just the smooth sweep of the snow.
The birds are busy at the feeders, though they get emptied in no time if the jackdaws arrive. The sheep are safe in their sheds with their hay racks, but the little wild creatures must fend for themselves. When the snow eventually stops is a good time for some pawprint detective work to see who lives where and where they have been:smile:

Nothing here either. It's mild at about 9 or 10C but everything is so wet and soggy I don't even want to walk on the grass to get to beds except for the well worn trail down to the hen house. The bird feeders are on a gravel area behind the house and there's a lot of activity there.

I ventilated the greenhouse for a couple of hours, even had the fan on, didn't help much.

Just damp here, so I pootled around in the greenhouse. My new heat mat arrived today, so I sowed 6 different eucalyptus species - I need something to suck up some of the constant rain. In my last garden my eucalyptus perriniana made a huge difference to a soggy corner.

I gave the tree fern a fleece cover and "nailed" this to the ground, just to avoid the water sticking to the fern in the evening. Let's see if that works out. Apart from 1 leave, all others are still fine.
This week will be crucial what temperature concerns
