Pressure washers suitable for domestic use were brought out about 50 years ago. In those days not that many people had large areas of paving so few of them had the washers.

When we moved in here the patio was crazy paving (ex local authority pavements) but then more modern paving started to be sold for their look as well as their amenity so needed to be kept clean.

I do a lot of pressure washing because I have a lot of paving and it is fancier looking sandstone. There's no point in paying out extra for the look if it ends up black! :noidea: Ours has different tones of colour and also fossils in them (fossilised leaves and other things) and we have about 2,000 sq. ft of it.

It could be scrubbed with a stiff brush and some chemicals but there are two things against that. We don't use chemicals in the garden (haven't done so for at least 50 years) and my muscles couldn't possibly manage it. Pressure washing is not all that difficult as long as I do it in short sessions. I have an extension to the washer lance that allows me to remain upright otherwise I would not be able to use it with just the equipment it comes with.

I've seen an advert for some pressure washer attachment where a woman is washing her fence, and it made me go WTF? since when are we expected to wash our fences?

Mind you there's an awful lot of bird poop on mine at the moment ..

One of my neighbours had their roof washed. I'd always thought our estate was built with dark brown tiles, but apparently they're a weird yellowish colour. It looked awful, especially as it was a semi-detached house so there was a stark line with next door. And the algae and moss just looked all the more obvious when it started coming back.
I mentioned it to a colleague who said their next door neighbour had done the same, it was just blasted with a pressure washer and all the moss and muck came over his side, over his conservatory roof and driveway and into his gutters!

ahh but these are tiny, the beginners set came with a mini 20 and a midi 4, so when (if) they germinate and grow to the next stage each will be potted up into a block from the midi 4. All in the heated propagator in an unheated greenhouse, then unheated propagator, then just greenhouse, then cold frame, then planted out. Very early days in my blocking journey!

I'm back from OH's garden in Norfolk to my garden in Dordogne. Things are starting to grow, new shoots all over the place. We left my garden in January looking rather bleak. I'd sorted some beds and mulched them but I hadn't finished. I'd pruned about 2/3 of the roses. I've planted 44 since I moved here 4 years ago, there were only 3.

I spent a few hours in the garden this afternoon pruning, weeding and mulching the round rose bed. I think I will be stiff tomorrow, in fact I'm stiff now. It was full of weeds. It was fine last autumn. Where did those brambles, cinquefoil, daisies, dandelions, bittercress etc come from?

Most of the daffodils are blind. Last year my French handyman mowed them all down as soon as they finished flowered. I had asked him to wait until the leaves died but he said it looked messy. He did it while I was in Norfolk. He's left now. I have a new English handyman who will mow the grass when we are away and trim the hedge.

I'm hoping the Agapanthus might revive. I did try to sprinkle seeds sparingly , but difficult with poppy seeds as so tiny, with the idea I won't have much thinning to do if the live long enough to get to that stage :). Always possibility that I might have more growing space, too.

I hope to finish it all in not much over another 10 hours or so. :phew: It's worth it when it's finished.

Sounds like a plan! :blue thumb: I like a mystery seedling … but it looks more vigorous than the Corydalis so separating them will be best.

Repaired my cold frame. The top polycarbonate was like lace! And I need to put more seedlings in there to make room in the greenhouse. Also did some weeding. Why do they grow so well?
@ViewAhead if that's one of plants from Farmyard then I'd try keeping it. I bought a Kniphofia with a spiranthes growing in it, and a Primula seiboldii with a dactylorrhiza in it from them!

Cleared some weeds from one area and then we tackled the veg patches. "Found" loads of moolis and small beetroots that we thought had all rotted out. So 2 areas cleared now and hopefully more to follow.

I've been out digging up spanish bluebells and general clearing up. I turned up an old penny, 1914. There wasn't anything here but farmland until about 1950. Got visions of some poor labourer losing their beer money!
