Mowed the "lawn" this afternoon. Then sat and enjoyed homemade chocolate biscuits.

I dug over a flower bed, then planted in trays of compost, Swiss chard, chives, and Zinnia.

Noted that my garlic are doing well, as are the tiny cosmos seedlings.

Well, my week off to do the heavy stuff in the garden is at an end and I have to go back to work tomorrow  It turned out no to be so heavy after all, which is a relief as I'm still nursing a sprained big toe. All in all, I raked and bagged up all of the old bark chippings, sawed the philadelphus Fragrant falls down to the soil level, lifted and relocated some foxgloves and snapdragons. Also planted 3 hellebore Diamonfire, aquilegia Chocolate Soldier, aconitum Album, hibiscus Flower Tower White, potted some more dahlias and 35 seedlings from Sarah Raven (phlox Creme Brulee, Bells of Ireland, Ammi Majus) and today sowed ipomoea Chocolate, sweetpea Juliet, rudbeckia Sahara and scabiosa Buttermilk. I've got the week before Easter off and I'm hoping to get stuck back into making the planters and water features to go around the edges of my raised beds. I started them end of August last year which is never really a good time as I always run out of steam in the garden by then. The inclement weather didn't help much either!

There is a lot of them to be sure, they are in all 3 of the borders and I've noticed a few starting to pop up in the pots. At the rate they're popping up they'll have outgrown my garden and moved on to colonise the whole of Ireland :yikes:.

@Selleri , I note you have a label there for clematis Guernsey cream….snap! I just planted ours out within the last week. It’s a new one for us so fingers crossed it does okay. I must say that it’s leaf formation and spacing looks very like/ similar to a clematis Montana .
Today I planted out one of my favourite clematis, clematis Nelly Moser. I finally found one last week at a local garden centre after looking for one for months. Our last one succumbed to something and had to be removed. This one has been planted in a different so more fingers crossed for that one now.

The dry spell continues and some plants are shooting up flowering and diving back down again thanks to bright sun and dryness.
Lots of signs of growth and I need to water my giant hawthorn cutting.
Hopefully today I will get planted a number of things bought recently; some to replace last years casualties.

I slept badly last night so when I got up ( very early for me) I decided to make a start on Spring cleaning( prior to OH starting to paint the house) . So, what have been doing in the garden today? Hanging up newly washed slat blinds:yay::whistle:

@luciusmaximus Did you grow morning glory last year? Some of the seed leaves look like MG ones.

Having a little break now :phew:

Finished the raised bed and most miraculously didn't a) break anything or b) hurt myself in a spectacular manner. I'm pretty good at both.

It might not be the most elegant structure ever built by human race (Taj Mahal springs to mind), but it does a couple of important jobs this summer.

I have loads of bits of old fencing lying around, lengths of black plastic sheeting possibly used to cover a boat, and mountains of soil from the pond to make disappear. Plus it might be ok for my cucumbers and peppers this summer. I hope. Oh, and it props up the wonky potting table and hides the new shoots of Brambles growing between the greenhouse and the fence.

                  Feast your eyes :heehee:

                  raisedbed1march25.jpg raisedbed2.jpg

And yes, the parts of the greenhouse that look like broken panels fixed with plastic and duckt tape are just that. I'll get it properly fixed some day. :heehee:

Super progress, Selleri! To save you lots of heartache and scratches in future, as the bramble shoots are young and receptive, blast them with a 40ml / litre solution of glyphosate ( the real thing). If you don't get them now, they'll form strong stems that will literally destroy your greenhouse!

Managed to get out to the greenhouse and, with hub's help, watered with the hose. In the nick of time. Everything looks ok though. He will give me a hand to pot on.

Planted a new clematis (I think it's Blue Angel, blue something anyway) and repotted rose Blue for You, into a blue pot. Yes, I like blue. Also did a bit of hoeing. I'm going to wave the hose pipe around later - weather forecast says no rain for two weeks. Where are the April showers?

Haven't done anything in the garden today other than a little watering. I have been admiring all of the potential green gages though and the pollinators are out in force doing their thing. PXL_20250331_162024263.MP.jpg

Hubby bought 2 bags of compost, some cell trays and watering trays that the cell trays will fit in.
I found a lot of polyanthus seedlings growing in the border so i put them in the cell trays.

Thanks @noisette47 . I'll have to learn to live with the brambles as they are coming through under the fence, and in any case I'm not allowed to handle poisons nor power tools. A screwdriver that rotates itself rather than a fully manual one is borderline.

When we moved in the greenhouse was full of brambles inside and outside, I spent a week hacking them back and another one starting all conversations with "no, I don't have a kitten and yes, I'm all right". :heehee:

Anyways, the porridge like substance between my ribs and legs is making noises after spending the day digging and carrying things. I'll wake up looking like this
