We have a rather large Pampas Grass and I use the old traditional way of dealing with the grass clogging into solid chunks of dead stems/leaves. Every two years, around February, I set light to it. Works well.

I would love to set fire to ours! Pampas must be one of the most difficult plants to bag up after a trim. Trouble is ours is next to our fence and the neighbour's hedge.

Ours is not in a position to be of harm but is rather large at 6ft diameter. It gets cut down to about 8" every second year, I use a strimmer straight through the whole lot, and a burning piece of paper dropped in the middle. It takes no more than two minutes for the whole lot to burn as it flashes through it and doesn't even harm the grass around it.

It's so quick that wetting the fence and hedge with a hose would be OK - I think. :fingers crossed: :heehee:

Planted two rhubarb crowns, Timperly Early and Stockbridge Arrow; three Camellia sinensis and Camellia sasanqua "Hugh Evans". These have gone in where there is bit of shelter as Camellia sinensis doesn't appreciate cold winds.

Disappointed with myself, I should have done a lot more yesterday, but for some reason my bum refused to raise from the chair. I did muster some enthusiasm though, and I mowed the back lawn. Sometimes I think I get overwhelmed with what needs to be done, and I end up doing nothing :dunno:. Indecisions also play a part, think I need someone to tell me what to do, though on 2nd thought maybe not :pillow:

I watered the plants in the conservatory, the full extent of my activity. I am trying to keep myself mobile and pain free ready for the family visit next weekend when there will be 9 of us gathering for my sister's wake.
I have discovered Co Codamol makes me feel nauseous and depressed so I have stopped taking it and started doing yoga stretches in bed each morning to enable me to move. Effect in progress.

I've just potted up 3 Broccoli plants Marathon. I wasn't expecting them so soon, the main delivery of plants isn't due till May where the can go straight out ( or I should say in -in the cage) if you plant any brassicas out on our Allotments, turn your back and the pigeons will strip them :yikes:.
I've been buying them as plants the past few seasons, much more success, I don't have room in the greenhouse to sow and pot on at the right time and for the few plants I want, I buy a club root resistant selection of cabbage broccoli, cauliflower and sprouts. It's not that expensive when you consider the cost of seed, compost etc. That's my excuse.

                      Hmmm, what to do?
I asked the guy who cuts our grass and has a garden maintenance company, to plant some things for me; gladdies, bare rooted perennials and bearded iris. He's buried the iris (I didn't think to check that he knew how to plant it, as he knew a week ago what he was planting).
                      Will it rot, I wonder?

It might do @Penny_Forthem , could you get your hub to gently lift them so the rhizomes are showing on the surface? Or get the chap to come back and do them properly?

Recently I've been looking at the Lilium henryi for lily beetle, not seen any yet this year and then yesterday just coming in for the day and looked at a small L lancefolium still in a pot and there a flash of red among the foliage a single lily beetle, with a cry of "die you swine" and a flash of fingers it was nipped in half.

Weather was gorgeous yesterday and the 2 days of rain prior has done the garden some good! I bought some plants from Lidl yesterday- strategically placed by the entrance, what could I do :hapfeet: :heehee:. Another Scabious , an Armeria and an Imperator Red Dragon grass now joined my plant family ( it's more purple than red ).

Painted the coving blocks on the patio wall ( 2 coats ), cut back some Daffodils. They will need to be removed from the pot so I can plant a Cranesbill Geranium into it and then put some of the bulbs back in. I started setting up another mini pond in a smaller container. Has gravel, few pebbles and a Mint so far. Getting pond plants here is so difficult :gaah:. There is a garden centre in Dublin that has some, but a 3 hour round trip and toll bridges :th scifD36:. Nursery at Warrenpoint has Lillie's ( too big ) and when I asked if smaller plants might be arriving he shrugged and said maybe next month ( guaranteed to irritate me! ).

Anyways, the pics are the free seeds that were in the soil or compost I bought. They've got much bigger now. Any ideas what they are??
