Thanks @CanadianLori I just wondered if it was aged enough? I know it can be too acidic if fresh. Think I'll just bung it on anyway.

Planted out a load of bulbs I had growing in pots round the side of the house..."graceful" alliums, black beauty Iris etc

Also painted a planter. my mum bought it for me to say thanks for doing her garden. a chap a couple of houses down the road from her was making them. Think I will use it as a herb planter.

Mrs Shiney isn't sure but thinks what you might be referring to is Rehmannia elata (Chinese foxglove), I think it could possibly be Nicandra physalodes (Shoo-fly plant). :noidea:

Re horse manure:- what I do if I think it isn't mature enough is chuck it on my compost heap and dig it in. By the time the compost is ready, so is the manure.

I thought it had to be at least a year old to be classed as "well-rotted" and so be broken-down enough to put around plants, this webpage says 6 months to a year but I would've thought being bagged would have retarded the decomposition process so it might still burn your plants.:dunno: Better to err on the side of caution, surely! :noidea::)

I have had a busy day today with the weather being so lovely. Mowed the lawn then moved 2 Hydrangea macroghylla that were in full sun to a slight more shady spot as the leaves were beginning to curl already and we've only had sun for a few days. Took some cuttings from the Clematis "so many" then potted up some tomatoes, Money maker and gardeners delight and also some Delphinium that are romping away.

Planted some Poppy wildflower I had grown from seed into the borders and have more left to do tomorrow.
Also have Poppy American legion and ladybird and calofornian and Welsh on the go too. I think I've gone a little poppy mad this year :heehee: I hope I can keep up with the deadheading before they self seed.

Hmm Now I'm going to be cautious and not put it on yet. I'm desperate to get some stuff dug into the ground. although since posting I have ordered a bulk delivery of MPC and Spent mushroom compost...7-10 days delivery so I can wait.

@Jasmine star You can't have enough poppies!

@shiney Im certain it was a type of cape gooseberry plant as id made a comment it looked a bit like Chinese Lanterns. I've got the chinese foxgloves growing :)

fantastic nestcam @jimcubs i'll be interested to see their progress

Well today's little jaunt in the garden had me potting up my nasturtium, preparing my ground under the coldframe for the courgette which is growing like a trifid out in the porch and preparing the ground by my garage so I can put in the new water butt which was delivered today. So very excited to be able to have water butts at either end of the garden. Hopefully means no hosepipe required this year. Yay! Checked on my sweet peas which I planted outside on a whim at the weekend and they seem to be coping very well even if the night temperatures have dipped a bit. Got some more going in the greenhouse though just in case my eagerness to put something in the ground comes back to bite me! :loll:

Funny old day, not a lot accomplished. Our friend John came over for drinks, lots of chat and laughter and music and I sowed some Epipremnum Scindapsus aureus, Pothos aureum. Devil's Ivy, to grow outside. I have a small one in the bathroom but decided to try large scale. John takes anything I don't want to go on his 58 hectares but mostly around his actual farmhouse.

Snap Vicky.. Funny old day here too ,been outside all day doing this and that but couldn't really get into the swing of it. Think I'm still reeling from our sad news.
Tomorrow will be a new day, I will shake myself up and get back in the rhythm.... that's what Armandii would wish us all to do.

Almost finished the planter. Top level are "mediterranean" herbs.

                          Second level are alpines.

Bottom level is mint (will be kept in pots) and got to transfer chives into there too.

Yes, he absolutely would! :blue thumb: I've been the same today, in a complete daze with the grief and shock, can't imagine how his closer friends and poor family feel... but have been reading all the lovely tributes and am determined to do better in the garden than ever before this year in his honour! :)

I sowed Carrots Parsnips and Spring Onions in my raised bed. Turnips Lettuces and Radishes are coming along nicely.
I tried securing a support for a Clematis and broke off three nice long shoots in the process :frown:
I wanted to get rid of an old stump of a rose American Pillar but it was very thick so I had to saw through it !
Got rid of a lot of Ivy growing on a wall and invading the surrounding beds.
