Although some time ago. I found Suttons, most helpful. I was at the time working and also tutoring. They provided me with a vast amount of grass seed for identification purposes, also. In addition to my already status. They were always there to help on the technical and scientific matters.

Try them. Take time to set sown your questions and then submit. I am sure you will get the very best of help.

As it's not raining I can get out and tidy up some of the frosted dead bits. Then there are rocks and soil to move from A to B.

Here are two cherry trees defo ornamental going by the taste and the trunk of a poor never produced one edible peach just hundreds of waste ones...Had to go. There was two huge Pampas Grasses where the new Hebe and Flower Pots are at the mo..To the left is a patio moi laid completely on my own... on hard flatten soil no concrete or sand used..several years now and it's ok really..Pond is within that patio... 010.JPG
Two very tasty Cherry Trees and the birds even save us a few. one is black
and one is red. Make Jam and Pies with them and use a fork with two bended
outside prongs to remove the cherry stones.Looking back at it maybe just one
cherry tree in the photo, also had the flash on but still a tad dark..

I've just had a look, Logan and don't appear to have any!
I had planned to have a look today at my seed catalogue, (Parkers)with the idea of purchasing some annuals for cut flowers, but not sure what.
I was thinking of trying to grow chillis, I think they need a long growing season. I don't have a greenhouse though.
Sorry if I'm a bit vague, I just want to get started.

If you have a sunny window you can still grow seeds and Chillies, when they come up turn the tray round every day so they get equal light both sides I've just sown my chillies.

Ventured into the 15c sunlight (gosh is it bright). Surprising I don't seem to have totally lost anything, not even my new Hibiscus babes, but a few things will need trimming back where tips of shrubs/plants didn't like the prolonged cold. I will wait till February to do that. Pleased overall with everything.

@Victoria 15C nearly like a summer day here that , have you not had any snow like Spain ?

Looks like you have a reasonable size garden DianneW , I have had fruit trees before which don't fruit or fruit properly , they can be there for years in hope you may get at least one edible piece of fruit .

A dull day today but at least its not raining or snowing . I washed my pots last night and cleaned my label the night before . Organise the pots and sowing station in the GH so I can sow some seeds today - Begonia - Verbena pendula - salvia hastata which I am having problems with germinating they're going in the fridge along with the Crassula which doesn't want to germinate either , also sowed some Veronicastrum Album .

Rake one the borders surprised the mess I lifted from cutting back so chucked that on my shredding pile , got the lawnmower out and proceeded to shred all the garden waster for the compost heap.

Hi Perki. No, we don't get snow down here in Algarve. We don't get frost because we don't go that low. Actually we are in our winter months now. Been coming here since 1984, owning since 1988 and living since 2001. A perfect place.

got an acre quite painful that...

We have lost two plums trees an apple tree two small pear trees that where very tasty and one more small pear tree that is just hanging on..looks rough now...We have tree greenish plums sweet though left near the house.. they are all old trees so guess they have a life span like most things.
We have just one apple tree and the fruit is small and dry to the taste...We have a walnut tree that hangs over the end garden..where they have several and we all share them out..lots are dried up inside though...maybe an age thing again..they all look ancient.

Well, the temperature, although forecast to rise a little, stayed in the low 40'f's but with the forecast of more rain I decided to get a few long standing jobs done in the garden.
So, I planted a Climbing Rose "Paul's Scarlet" immediately in front of the East side, on the garden side, of the Trellis Garden Entrance. The idea is to train the Rose up onto the East side of the Trellis. It's a pot grown Rose but, even so, I don't expect too much flowering this year as the Rose settles in and gets established but we can hope!
I cleared most of the borders of all the dead stems, leaves and other bits of debris and filled one of my bigger garden sacks where it will have to stay until I can find room in the Compost Bins.
I rarely use chemicals in the garden but, today, I got a "Resolva" 5 litre Spray can out and started to target the shoots of Couch Grass because this is a good time to do it and stops any further spread. I can use it fairly safely as the soil is fairly bare with the Hardy Perennials and Bulbs still "sleeping" under the surface.
With that job done, I started to prune back the Clematis Trellis Entrance which has around 35/40 Clematis on either side and have manage to severe all the stems about 18" from the soil. I'm always amazed how much new growth the Clematis have put on even this early in the year. I still have clumps of Clematis still clinging to the Trellis, but the main job is done and I'll wait until tomorrow to finish the whole job. I also need to repair a pair of Secateurs where the narrow plastic housing holding in the mechanism of shutting or open has fractured. It would be a waste to throw them away when a good plastic glue will repair them easily.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:
