Continue with the chopping, chucking and taking cuttings....The 3C's..:heehee:. Seed harvesting too has begun. Why:dunno:??

Why I take so many cuttings is a mystery to me, most of the pots I'm chucking are unrecognizable brown ,dead cuttings from last year!!

Don't get me started on seed harvesting!!!:help:.

I have rarely used any of my own seeds...ever!!

    I just can't resist both.......I need help.:thud:

      Seed saving can get compulsive.

Every few years I throw out thousands of marrow, tomato, sweet pea, runner bean, french bean, parsley, chard, pumpkin, etc. seeds, then start saving again.

(Unused, saved wildflower seeds get used for guerrilla gardening)

Took the horticultural fleece off the blueberry plants and picked the rest of the berries off them. Picked the last of the gooseberries but the wasps are out so no more, but got a lot anyway.

I cut out the old raspberry canes. I want to move the new ones but that will have to wait until the autumn.

We're fighting a losing battle against both the goodies and baddies. The goodies are growing too fast, too tall and too wide and chopping back doesn't seem to make an impression. The baddies are even worse!

Whilst we're doing that I reckon the grass is laughing, behind my back, and each lawn is having a competition of who can grow the fastest whilst allowing the most weeds to grow.

My pressure washer is complaining that the patio is getting too dirty too quickly and the local birds seem to have invited all the district to come and eat our bird food!

On the up side, the beans are needing to be picked twice a day, the Cobaea are starting to bloom early, last year's Nicotiana sylvestris (that we didn't pull up) are reaching 7ft in height , Salvia turkestanica have performed magnificently and all the visitors to the garden have wanted some so Mrs Shiney is collecting seed (they stink :rolleyespink:) but we sold last year's seeds to a seed merchant for a generous donation to our charity :hapydancsmil:.

Note re Nicotiana sylvestris:- you can take root cuttings from the nice fleshy roots. When planting the cuttings make sure they are the right way up. When taking the cuttings cut the bottom end at a slant to give it a point. That way you know to plant the pointy end down. :dbgrtmb:

Today, as it was so lovely and sunny this morning (not now, it's very wet), I decided to mow the lawns as they were in need of doing. Of course, this wet and warm weather that has followed will mean the grass will be almost as long again as before I cut it! Oh, the joys if gardening. :hapfeet:

Managed some time today so have dug a new asparagus bed and transplanted some plants that were growing in the borders, topping off with composted manure. Lots of excess soil so have scattered that about to start and alleviate some dips in the lawn.

I potted up some Heliotrope seedlings, and the only two Basil seeds to germinate, I also repotted some Hoya cuttings that were given to me by a friend.
I planted several rooted cuttings of Impatiens niamniamensis, that were still in water, I have some Iresine and Tradescantia zebrina cuttings also in water and ready for potting up when I can get around to it. Their roots are becoming tangled up.
Also watered lots of pots and tubs, everything is bone dry.

Mowed the lawn, heavy pruned a wisteria, cut down a perennial sweet pea, moved a rhody and generally got the extended patio area ready for gravel delivery on monday...

Not actually IN the garden but went to the Garden Center and bought 8 terracotta pots in different sizes and 6 saucers in different sizes. Couldn't go there without getting something pretty so I go two Pelargoniums zonale, one Portulaca single and one Portulaca double. I resisted the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and they didn't have any Mandevilla or would have got one. I do have one growing where I don't want it so will have to move it.

Not doing anything in the garden today, other than watering the tomatoes in the mini greenhouse earlier this morning, as it is now raining heavily. I'm glad I got the grass cut on Wednesday as we are in for a few very soggy days :rain:if the forecast is to be believed. I sometimes wish I had the space for either a potting shed or proper sized greenhouse then I could be busy doing garden related things even in inclement weather. Oh well, never mind. :)

In between rain showers I've shredded the prunings from yesterday and started looking at the area that's going to be a jungle walk... It's just been left for years so ran a mower over it and after declagging it many times I can at least see the space! Think it's going to be a weedkill job and just getting it ready for next year now.

Did a bit of weeding and in that space planted 3 hardy fuchsias, they're by the lupins so when the lupins have finished the fuchsias will take their place.
