I’ve been trying to keep on top of the garden over the past few weeks. Not easy with a puppy getting in the way, especially when he developed a habit of attacking me from behind, and biting me hard, with a full-on bite…

anyway, we think we’ve made it clear that is not acceptable, so I’ve been able to do a little more.

Yesterday I cut the paths in the grass, most of which has not been cut since April. We are slowly making the paths wider, and clearing a “wedge” at a time. At the moment we’ve got mainly yarrow (white, and some pink), meadow scabious, and some thistles in the meadow areas. Also harvested a load of red chillies (pikito, jalapeño, Cayenne and Patio sizzle). There was 138g of pikito, and about a similar amount of the others, combined. We've got some Hungarian Black that have turned nearly fully red too, but I left those for another day.
Oh yes, picked our first runner beans!! Three of them - :heehee: there may be some more later this week.

Still on my border revamp planning, labelling those that are on the move to a new home area or those that are sadly departing. Also considering as to whether or not to move the lavender plants from the raised kitchen patio beds . I replaced them 2years ago but they have grown so big and floppy again, we have drastically cut them back but I have since done some reading up and I think the soil is too good for them in that area, so they too might be on the move as well.

We have Box Blight, so we've been removing / cutting them right back today ,4 so far.
We cut one right down to ground level about 3 months ago and it seems to be growing back really healthy:fingers crossed:

A couple were too far gone so they've been completely removed

Yesterday helped hubby with cutting the front grass and I put the cuttings around the rhubarb as a mulch, it's keeping the moisture in and it's better than putting it around the back hedge on the other side of the wall and not being used at all.
Today going to sort out the chillies in the conservatory, I've had a good harvest but now they have finished so going to get them out and use the compost for 2 mint plants that we bought from the supermarket.

Repotted Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Petit Sunrise' into a nice rotund terracptta pot. It had been in the ground under the Brugmansia but did not like the cold snap we had and went back to the ground. I have had it in my ICU space and it has recuperated well. Moved a pale pink Mandevilla/Dipladena to a trellis where I had a small Pentas. Just have the Pentas sitting in a pot until I decide where it can go. I have no space in the ground and am getting overrun with pots. :rolleyespink:

I can take my pick, pile of stuff to go through the shredder, grass to cut, dead/dying rambling rose to come out, compost heap to turn, mature compost to be distributed, weeding deadheading and so forth.

Most of the time is taken up with cutting back but Mrs Shiney spends a lot of time deadheading, collecting seeds and watering the greenhouse, nursery areas and all the pots. The watering takes a good hour per day using the hose.

I spend a lot of time harvesting, cutting grass, weeding and also cutting back. Nowadays we need help with the heavy stuff (hedge cutting, heavy digging etc.). We tend to measure how much work is done by how big the compost heaps get (five of them about 5ft-6ft x 4ft), how high the bonfire heap gets (burnt it last week and already getting close to 6ft high), wheelie bins filled with nasty weeds (three bins per week), and ton bags filled to be taken away (four this week but none next week).

I got a letter from our water authority saying we are using three times the amount of water than most of our neighbours :rolleyespink:. That's not surprising as most of them are at work all day and don't grow anything but grass and trees (don't need watering). We have masses of plants that need watering (sell lots for charity) and a veg plot almost the size of an allotment and sell the produce for charity. They've put our monthly charge up from £22 to £39.

Next heavy job is to remove 4 very well established Leycesteria formosa and offer them as freebies on local media. We'll offer them as 'dig your own' :heehee:

Did some watering and thinking about changing the back garden a bit. Don't need so many red and white current bushes, so started to cut them down to dig out, don't know how easy it's going to be. Also there's some gooseberry bushes to dig out.

Yes @Upsydaisy I've got some blackcurrant cuttings that have been in small pots for a few years, I was wondering what to do with them, I'll probably end up having too many of those in the end. I'll Probably put some flowers in as well, I grew some lupins and a Knautia from collected seed I might put in. Hope that yours go well.

@shiney I get those letters all the time and they are fantastic for starting a fire in a winter's evening :)

@Logan I too need to get things shifted! I did some deadheading, collected some seeds and then spent a good deal of time shaking my head out there. I need to do a lot of re-arranging. Particularly since my shaded and sunny spots have swapped places.

It has cooled down to 85f. And being after 7 in the evening, I have zero intention of going out to join the mosquitoes who love this hour with bonuse humidity!

Oh, and I did treat myself to a couple more Hibiscus. Hardy down to zone 4. Giant happiness!

Having cut down the dead rambling rose there is an even bigger pile of stuff for shredding.
                                Today compost heaps.
