In respect Woo during these past 18 mths I've had to learn the ( very difficult) art of 'pacing ' . When it was suggested to me I was in complete shock and denial...of course I didn't need to and of course I could still do absolutely everything !!
That was until about March this year when suddenly I knew I wasn't coping with not just the garden but in other areas of my life...it hit me then that All areas gradually get effected by a knock on effect from each other...and that I definitely didn't want to happen ..something had to give.

The amount of work I have done this year in our garden has been well below my normal amount...and if I do ever push myself to do more then my body reprimands me for a good few days afterwards. It then stops me from doing other things which are so very much more important....one very crucial one was being there for and supporting my brother who has Alzheimer's and lives alone.
It's a case not only of pacing yourself but also of getting your priorities in the right order too.

That's why I'm now working on making changes to our garden ...not huge, but just enough to make that area in my life more manageable.

Sadly the time comes to us all to sit up and listen to our body and mind.
Take care of yours Woo. xx

I'm trying to stay in the shade but failing a bit! Repointed some bits of the old house and planted out some bargain basement plants I bought yesterday but seriously flagging already. Started moving some phlox in a new border and discovered a new problem of palette.
As its new I just threw stuff in to fill it up but it's clear the bright yellows of helenium are not mixing well with the pinky purple of the phlox. There's also whites and reds which will go with either so does the phlox go or the helenium?!

We had major rain and thunderstorms last night which was wonderful as I'd just decided where to plant my new hardy hibiscus and now they are really well watered in.

@wiseowl I too have bark chippings to spread but only a quarter of what you have. And in one spot I am going to be ripping out some creeping myrtle before laying it . The myrtle has gone crazy and is invading everywhere. I like it's purple flowers but not everwhere! So, yes, I'll be done with the bark long before you but then I have a bunch of bricks in the van to unload. And I pace it all out. I call it puttering. Doing some light things and then doing heavier work and so on.

Best get back out there. The ground is soaked and it will be easier for the tug of war with the myrtle! :blue thumb:

Moved another Lavender, took more cuttings from some fave Pelargoniums and some Senecio Silver Dust ( not sure if it's the correct time to do so, but nothing to lose from trying;)). Also deadheaded all the Dahlias.

Pfffft oh yes it does! Get rid of the heleniums, @Loofah  Horrible things! Even the reds vary a lot from orangey scarlets to bluey/pinkish shades which fight like hell with each other. I had the deepest respect for Christopher Lloyd, but his daft ideas on shocking combinations left me cold!

Didn't get as much done this afternoon ,as I decided to do the remaining laundry after dinner before the rain arrives.

Did finish pulling up the Sweet Peas. Emptied out some pots as things were well last their best, all were cleaned and are now ready for some bulb planting tomorrow. :dbgrtmb:
