Still no rain here! Ground is cracking up so much that I'm concerned I may slip through the cracks and enter the underworld sooner than expected.

I got more mowing done and only spent two hot hours at it. Then picked 10lb of beans. Some of them are starting to go lumpy although the crop is more prolific and before. Probably having a last spurt before turning up their tootsies. I gave them and the courgettes/squash a few hours of gentle watering. Within one or two minutes of turning it on there were seven blackbirds and two robins playing in the shower. They didn't even ask for soap on a rope!

In addition to the grasses and Leycesteria that were lifted yesterday we have added a couple of Phormiums, some ferns and a few other plants and they have all gone to make a new part of a garden for a residential disability home and sanctuary that houses 19 adults with disabilities.

Our garden doesn't look any emptier or neater! :noidea: :)

We'll soon think of something to go in their place. As my old pal Lewis Carroll said: You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream. Of course, that relies on me remembering what I wanted to do :old:

I found 3 Jersey Royal Potatoes that had started to shoot, so I've put them in a Potato bag with one layer of compost, one layer of grassing cuttings. I will fleece and move to a growhouse if it gets too cold.

Watered the hanging baskets. Waiting for next week to plant the wallflowers, haven't got time before then.

Yes @MrDigwell the human race:heehee: I made no mention of removing the bamboo as I have 3 types including black bamboo and I am extremely fond of them all I am just going to give them a trim and a tidy up I do hope that answers your pertinent question;)

I've been cutting back the Potato Tops which have gone Brown and crispy.

Now this got me thinking, we put Green & Brown in our compost bins, what are the Potato tops classed as please?

I think that it would be brown if they've gone dry and brown.

Phew! Finished sorting out the big herb planter, I have enough exiting seeds to start anew next spring. However, I did divide and pot up some Marjoram and Chives, a potful into the kitchen and a potful to stay out over the winter each. They are such good varieties that should the seedlings fail, hopefully these will romp on.

Gently walked a struggling Box in a pot into Box heaven, aka the brown bin. Rescued the self- spored fern into a pot.

The Big Plan is to liberate enough pots to have a stunning spring bulb display. So far I have cleared five big pots for the Daffs and Tulips, and am considering some more containing leftover plants that at the moment are trying to look very innocent and full of potential

Sowed some hardy annuals (free seeds) and uncharacteristically labelled the bowl. Boldly binned the seed bag and now I have no idea whatsoever what I'm growing. Hopefully the scribble on the bowl will last long enough for me to google it. I have never sowed hardy annuals in autumn but it sort of makes sense, I can't prepare a seedbed "where they are to flower" and windowsills are limited so I'll give it a go. Larkspur and something starting with A are done.

Cut the grass and tasked The Teenager to cut off the tomato leaves. She was snip-snip-snipping and hum-hum-humming away in the gentle evening sun. Life is good :)

I've done nothing in the garden for a while except cut bunches of Sweet Peas. Sometimes I cut two bunches a day, they're the best ones I've had for a number of years :dbgrtmb:
