I am the same, whenever I plan something the end product never looks anything like the plan because I keep changing my mind, so I just 'play it by ear' now.

I like the planning stage very much. Walking past a nice looking plot keeps me awake for hours as I perfect the scheme in my head, regardless that it's not my land

In practise, being an easily distracted and impulsive person, my reality rarely bears any resemblance to any plans. Improvising is much more fun than following instructions.

Thankfully plants are forgiving, as long as you get the basics somewhat right, the plants will bring delight and rewards. :)

Extended the veg beds a bit but too much else. Had my sister's family visit for the first time in a year and she was amazed at what I've done since she last saw the place. She also did a few walk through videos for my dad who's never been to visit!

Feel more enthusiastic today, also not full of cold.
So after a "dark and stormy night" the first job is to go around and pick up blown over things, put canes in hold some things up. Check gutters on greenhouse and make sure everything is flowing properly.

What a glorious day of torrential rain :hate-shocked:, sun out at the moment for how long I am not sure. I've been in the GH doing some cutting , removed nearly all the tomato leaves and any split ones . Potted up a plant which name fails me at the moment  it one of the protea family , it in the pot I had to wrestle a agapanthus out of yesterday they are swine's to get out of pots agapanthus. Potted up some nepeta and Hydrangea annabelle cutting .

Not sure what to do with myself now may start planning the front garden , I like planning things out I am not a plant plonker just a normal plonker at times. Or buy some bulbs the list is gettting quite extensive especially when alliums are involved I just dont want to part with the cash

Pruning, trimming and weeding; three barrow loads to compost.
Today in between showers start to prepare new space in front of the house. This time I have a plan, sort of as I know what I want to go in as the backbone.

I used to love planning a border, or part of a border. Caution thrown to the wind as to the 'suitability' of the plants. It was the contrast of foliage and flowers, shapes and continuity that counted. It seemed to work out OK in UK. Not here, though. At least half of the carefully thought-out 'effect' dies while the other half turns into a bunch of rampaging thugs. As for ground cover.......should you ever be tempted by Phyla nodosum, don't!

We never have time to plan things. Most of the time it is fighting/digging weeds, digging out dead plants, cutting back others that have run wild, sticking into the gaps newly propagated plants or gifts from other people (loads of those - more than we can cope with but we sell some of them) and seeing what gifts the wildlife have brought into the garden.

We cut to the ground, the other week, some very large Viburnum (14ft long and 4ft wide) as it was getting in the way of vehicles coming in and was covered in Viburnum scale. At ground level the roots were 3"-4" diameter and a lot of them. We would have dug them all out but we would have had to dig up the driveway to do so. It's now sprouting again! :rolleyespink: :wallbanging:

During the years we have been here we have removed over 70 trees that have either got too big for their position or have died but the place seems just as full as ever - or fuller! Must be something to do with things growing! :heehee:

I moved a pot into the GH I suppose that counts . It more a less raining nonstop, it need to stop raining so I stop spending money on plants ( budget what budget :hate-shocked: :help::help::help: ) and so I can go out and earn some penny's back.

I've more a less planned my spring pots out now which come at a cost , I want to start planning the front garden but I may get carried away :) , I have got lots of plants that need moving and plenty I want to use for the front .

Spent the morning with pick axe and shovel breaking up the very dry hard ground in the new bed. Removed a barrow load of rock, brick and concrete from the area; about twice the size of the barrow. Now let soil settle and tomorrows rain run in and then add barrow full of compost and should be good to go.
