Mrs does a cracking job of the wraiths @shiney , I don't envy you or Lewis getting them hostas out of the pots.

Potted up some fuchsia cuttings that I had in water. Moved some other potted cuttings upstairs in the spare bedroom on the windowsill.

Great buys @Lem ! Wilkos is good with their reduced to clear- offers, I have bought indoor ferns for 1p, Amaryllis bulbs for £1 and so on.

You must buy Mamillaria Elongata Cristata for the skull planters :heehee:

Managed to get out for a while and plant the rest of the tulips, clear some dahlias and move some pots under cover. I've also started pruning what I think is a dogwood; it's been neglected for years so there's a lot of dead wood in there and I just wanted to begin to open up some air flow. I'll leave until next year now to see how it responds

We spent a lot of time cutting down the Cosmos that we had on the patio in 40 litre pots. We have about 20 pots with four in each and all the plants were at least 6ft high. It's surprising how long it takes and how much there is :rolleyespink:.

It took us 90 minutes to cut them down to a size that would fit in the garden waste wheelie bins and the lower stems were so big it needed heavy duty loppers to cut them. We emptied the soil in the pots into the bins as well as they were a solid mass of roots. In the old days I would have thought nothing of lifting and emptying them but nowadays it takes the two of us to lift them :old: I started doing the first few on my own but realised I wouldn't be in a fit state for anything if I continued.

Once that was done, pots washed out (so was I :heehee:) and put in the pot resting area I adjourned to my resting area :recliner:. The mess on the patio waited for another day.

The last two days I have been pressure washing the patio to clean away the mess and to resite the remaining pots. I limit myself to two hours a day with the washer. One hour washing and one hour resting, then half hour washing and still one hour resting for the other two sessions. Only another couple of days to go, I hope. The trouble with doing the messy areas is that the areas that looked clean now look dirty! :). So a quick blast of the rest will have to be done.

We're still picking up a bucket full of windfall apples every day but it must slow down soon.

I have been ferrying all my woody cuttings and old scrap timber to the allotment. We are allowed to have bonfires the first two weeks in November only, I have quite a pile there now. I don't have anywhere at home to burn stuff.

Cracking on with planting a new bit of border. The soil prep is hard going now everywhere is damp, but it'll be worth it in the end. I've got Cytisus battandieri, Caesalpinia gillesii , Euphorbia mellifera and a selection of yellow, apricot and cream-flowered Irises to go in the drier, sunny end with Philadelphus cor. Aureus, Hedychium gardnerianum, Hostas and Hakenochloa in the damper, shady end (on the receiving end of the new land-drain :)). On the bright side, now the trees are getting established there's no need to mulch. Just re-distribute the fallen leaves and let nature do the rest :hapfeet:

I will be shredding paper. Not to do with gardening? Well, someone told me that I can pack my canna rhizomes in crumpled up newspaper to store in a cool dark place for the winter. I'm hoping this is correct as I have a lot of old files/documents to shred and if even a little of the stuff can be repurposed, that would be great!
