WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2021

No rain , but still windy. Decided I would continue with bramble clearance and a few other jobs. Then the wind dropped and the sun came out. Discarded idea of gardening in favour of the very first ride on my new bike. Whooohooooohooooohooooohooo 15mph up the hills . I LOVE that bike!!

This year I have a lot of cuttings that I took from my parent's garden... so I'm extremely anxious that they survive....especially as most were taken at the wrong time of year. But despite a few not making it , so far the rest are looking very promising, especially the Hydrangeas. The roses are a bit too hard to predict at the moment, Mum had a really lovely lilac coloured one that I am desperate to see survive along with a beautiful red one....sadly I never got to ask her their names.. I've also got a seed from their Peony that has germinated too....I just placed in into a small ziploc bag filled with damp compost and left it outside....a bit hit and miss I know...but I spy roots!!

This is the bit of gardening I love...taking chances and giving things a go!!

I hate the thought of dumping plants on the compost pile....even annuals!! I grew some really lovely red annual Salvias last year, and couldn't resist attempting to see if I could overwinter them.... one looks dodgy but the others look OK ( ish)

 

@luciusmaximus ....just think about the plants you could sneak back from the nursery in that basket!!...and all you have to innocently say is ...' Just going for my daily cycle ride'!!

 

Speaking of garden centres/ nurseries I haven't had a trip to one since 2019, thanks to covid . I do miss those trips, especially the food side of it

 

Yes a good day is promised here too !!

Plan to do what I did yesterday but this time it's going to be all the plants in the greenhouse that get a day out today!!

I want to organise space in the greenhouse in readiness for seed sowing too.

Another major task is to hunt down one of my favourite earrings that I stupidly wore out in the garden yesterday....it obviously decided on a day out too.
I can't count how many I've lost out there.....but this one I'm really upset about.

 

Hope you find your earring Upsy. I have a gold ring with tiny diamond I bought in the 60s playing hide and seek in the sand garden when it snuck off my finger after I lost a lot of weight. One day ... maybe one day ...

 

There's hope. I buried my grandmother's sapphire and diamond ring in the garden when I was 5. (My parents rather stupidly gave it to me as she died when I was 6 months old ) I dug it up again 8 years later It's a good job we hadn't moved meanwhile....

 

I never give up hope on anything. Back in the 70s we used to do boot sales/flea markets in the States. One time I lost an antique filigree cross. A year later were were at the same spot ... and guess what I sat on? The amazing thing was we lived in Alabama and the market was in Tennessee! Similar to this ...

 

Well I've just retraced all my steps around the garden and initially I can't see any sign of it....just leaves digging around the soil in the pots and in the compost heap...too frozen still at the moment.

Even checked out my jewellery box.....just in case I went for the one earring look yesterday!!

I spent 20 minutes in the sun trimming various potted green things and surveying all the newly planted items which have clung on to life following our prolonged cold spell. I need to see how everything is faring on the lower patio and Jungle Room ... but that is for tomorrow.

 

I've done nothing for a while now
Its rained for days, we've had flood warnings storms and snow all in 1 week. Some of the bulbs are poking through now which is nice to see.
