Yesterday lifted and moved to new site a Mahonia oiwakensis, Rosa serica, Berberis koehneana and a Zanthoxylum; a painful exercise I can assure you. Concerned that I didn't get a particularly large root ball for Zanthoxylum, just have to hope it recovers, it's staked and watered so fingers crossed. Also lifted a Mahonia haematocarpa that had gone into a steep decline last autumn discovered that the roots had grown in circles (had been pot bound when purchased, but thought I'd unwound them sufficiently when first planted) trimmed roots and potted into big pot with good compost, watered and stood in greenhouse will have to wait and see on this one as well.
Today tidied up from the weeks activities, moved some pots of spring bulbs out of the greenhouse to stop them getting too warm. Then dug over the bare bits of the veg plot and removed the cannonball sized beetroot.
    Zanthoxylum

Having read some of the posts I feel like I'm underachieving :S In the morning I repotted a necterine tree seedling that is now sulking profoundly (fingers crossed it perks up a bit soon) then planted a clematis that hasn't made quite such a fuss so far. Next, I attempted to reason the dog out of digging up my midget apple tree but negotiations quickly broke down so I repositioned a small bench to block him instead.

After lunch, I watered everything that didn't run away fast enough (the dog knows better than to stand still when I'm armed with a watering can) and performed my daily ameteaur inspection: this involves peering closely at all the pots/beds and either cheering at any new greenery showing itself or frowning if I can't find any.

I finished off with admiring my irises (first bulb I've ever planted - I'm unreasonably pleased that they've bloomed) and some "weeding" - there's a sycamore tree or two somewhere in the area, and while I wouldn't class them as weeds per say and am no expert on sycamores, I'm guessing a balcony planter is not the appropriate place to grow them.

A pretty good day all in all - I hope everyone else's day was similarly agreeable or better :)

@NigelJ Do you only grow plants that are hard to pronounce? :roflol:

I have had a busy day apart from gardening but have managed to get some done. Continued to weed one of the front beds and cut the main lawn. :)

Had another good day in the garden. We got the rose arch made and in. Transferred two climbing icebergs to the right hand side of the arch which I hope will eventually meet in the middle with the mature on.

Did some more tidying up and moving bits around. Dug up a skimmia that wasn't doing very well. Last chance for it...potted it up into ericacious compost, gave it a bit of magic powder and pruned off the dead bits. Fingers crossed it perks up.

Finished off by troffing some cheese and crackers and a bottle of vino...oops.

@EmmaJane sounds like you've been a busy bee too and have plenty to look after :dbgrtmb:

Raked the lawn, fed the pots in the back patio then the borders. Sown some poppy seeds (American legion) second attempt at these last years were a no show.

I thought I was doing okay, but the posts where stunning greenhouses, beautiful planters and rose trellises have been built were a tough act to follow lol :heehee:

It's brilliant to be in such good company here

After a couple of hours, the necterine has gotten over itself and perked up a bit - yay!

It does seem that way at times and a lot of them are unreasonably spikey.

Ha ha. Weve got 4 of them @shiney , well 3 now as we gave one to a neighbour. If you want another let me know! We are going to take them out and replace them with some different down lighting along the fence.

I started out much like yourself @EmmaJane . You will soon be doing all sorts and become totally addicted to gardening. Once the gardening bug has bitten you, it takes over :heehee:

Don't know if I'm doing anything in the garden today, might help hubby mow the lawn if it dries out this afternoon.

Nothing outside as it is below freezing, the ground is frozen solid and has several inches of ice and snow on it.
And it is still too cold to economically heat the greenhouse so no plants in there yet.

But I did pot up some Silky Oak, Asparagus fern and put germinating weed seeds in cell blocks. My second attempt at starting Monstera seems to be paying off as I can see some tiny shoots in the blocks. :fingers crossed:

And I set up a card table in the family room for my onion seedlings as a temporary place until I can some more LED lighting hung. Brought up the four trays of seedlings. Of course when I figure out where to put up the lighting, I'll have to run the table and trays back downstairs.. Oh well, excercise is always a good thing :blue thumb:

I've also finally figured out how much wiring and the gauge needed to carry out moving some of my solar panel array to the back fence. I can't do the actual work until the ground thaws but at least I know what to get to be ready for that time. :)

Just re-potted some Dianthus in a trough with Morning Glory Picotee I did from seed in between for a trellis on the Kitchen Patio, Planned on potting a Salvia I've had for years (c06/07) as only one out of five have survived (not sure which colour) by the ballustrade but ran out of compost which T'other Half said he would buy tomorrow. Then we had a light shower so gardening ended.

                                Garden6 6 Apr 09.jpg

Took a few cuttings of the Salvia to hopefully start more.
