WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2021

Sunny and clear in Birmingham after 1pm and still is

1. Filled two more raised beds and one with 50/50 well rotted horse muck and top soil. Thanks JR!
   
2. Taken out hardier seedlings for sunbathing
3. Had many cups of teas

 

spent the day up at the lotty. planted out my raspberry canes that id saved from the revamp. planted the blackcurrant bush and planted the rhubarb crown.

then we hid the ibc tank and I've painted it....whilst having half a bottle of vino and snibbits in the sunshine

 

I basked in glorious sunshine whilst planting some hyacinths, tulips and fritillaria imperialis in a couple of large containers.
Yes, I know it's a bit late, but when you find a carrier bag sending out shoots and roots that had been forgotten about in the utility room, late is so much better than never

 

That's very posh for an allotment! Where are the mismatched doors and the dilapidated sheds?

 

I were think the same thing , a lot of people would be pleased to have the back garden looking as good let alone the allotment.

Cleared the big border where the Apple and Pear trees are ,cutting back things as I went. Got rid of some plants that have past their best now, made a note of which ones last summer. Lots of room now to fill will the new perennials and summer bedding in May.

 

Ended up planting out onion sets and shallots. Spent the afternoon checking the dahlia tubers in the cold greenhouse. A couple had had it, a couple were beginning to shoot and Dahlia Excelsa had a shoot a couple of inches out of the compost (that was what prompted the checking. Also checked the Amorphophallus tubers which are in good condition.
Did some weeding as well.

 

Oh don't mention Dahlias Nigel... I'm so scared that I may have lost all of mine as its been so cold this winter.
I nervously left them all in situ last winter and was pleased to see they all survived bar one. I will be so upset it they've perished. I have sowed a few Bishops Children just in case, not my favourite but that's all I had .

 

well it was an overhaul of the lotty-all the old beds had rotted and its a new shed. the side of the ibc tank is actually covered in staging from the old greenhouse which has been in the garage rafters for 3 years now. painted up now looks all fancy....give it til next year and it'll be looking more "traditional"

 

Cold but sunny, so a couple of hours cutting grass in both bun runs and a bit of grass in front garden. Have several piles of grass to dispose of. Compost bins full up.Weeded out two of the baths,swept a section of pathway and peered into pond for several minutes. Sat on bench with coffee and chocolate biccies.

Had a trip to hardware store this morning and whilst there had a look at their new delivery of Alpine plants. I'm thinking of planting up one of my sink with them, but haven't decided yet. Bought a new seed feeder as the enterprising resident rodents have learnt how to shin up a tree and unhook the feeder - I watched her do it. After doing this a number of times the feeder broke.
