WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2021

I've just come in from the strong winds, bright sunshine and hail after doing more pressure washing.

 

Another fairly cool day with a maximum temperature of 45f and a South Westerly breeze, but that didn't stop me getting on with some more planting in the borders. I went down to the "growing on" area to collect the 8 Primulas that I'd found earlier in the week and found another 2 that were right at the back of the pots, so I planted the 10 Primulas along the edges of the centre path between the "walk around" border and the Lawn border and some in the small patch leading to the Green House.
Unless I find some more, I think I have planted the last of the Alliums when I planted 3 more Summer Drummers after I'd planted the Primroses. I still had another Centurea to plant so that went into the border next to the Green House and then going back to the "growing on" area I brought back 8 Delphiniums. leaving 4 behind that were only just showing growth, and potted them onto bigger pots.
The Stepping Stones that I set into the narrow entrance to the Lawn had settled down lower than what I had wanted, so I took them up again and putting some more soil into the holes raised them higher. I've got a feeling that I might have to do it again after I've trodden on them a few times going in and out of the Lawn area. I had to retreat to the Green House once or twice because of brief Hailstone showers, but got out the 10 kilo bucket of Blood, Fish and Bone meal, as soon as the showers had gone, and dressed all the borders with it.
I've been quietly worrying about the Peonies as they were not showing any shoots but, today, was happy to see that most of them were pushing their red shoots out of the soil.
I've still got 14 Foxgloves to plant in the shadier parts of the borders, but might leave that until the middle of next week.


The borders are changing every day with more shoots "jumping" out of the soil. I'm still surprised, even after decades of gardening, just how fast plant Spring growth is, but it always excites me to see it.





Anywhere where there is bare soil means that there are Bulbs hiding in there.




Beauty doesn't have to be big, when you've got these showing off in the large pots of Shrubs.

Yes, it's an Anemone, Sheal. I was just sorting out the pots on the Patio and they just caught my eye with that beautiful blue. It's strange, I've got lots going on in the borders and yet a little anemone made me stop and appreciate it for it's simple beauty.
