I'll have a mooch round and see what urgently needs doing, if I'm in the right frame of mind might continue moving rocks until the hands stop working.

Hope they make it. Been thinking of her a lot again lately. Sure she'd have had some funny jokes about Trump to share on the forum.

Can anyone advise what to do with this banana plant? It looks a mess

I've no idea what type it is. My hair dresser gave it to me in the summer as they were having an extension built and no space to put it anywhere.

I am not to knowledgeable on bananas but its favours a Ensete , I cut the leaves off mine and turn it upside down to drain water then store in a cupboard in the house . If its a musa it may regrow from the bottom large banana outside are often cut back down . I'd wait for someone else to answer before doing anything drastic , no harm tidying the dead / dying leaves up though.

Ordered most of my bedding plants today , got quite a few different varieties of petunia to grow this year. Had to order them quick stocks were going down fast I am not getting stuck for plants this year like last year due to high demand.

I haven't been in the GH for a bit the door been frozen shut most of the time, I got in today and everything looking a bit dead , all the fuchsias - ginger and many others have been hit with the frost . Hopefully it will warm up tomorrow so I can go in and tidy all the dead matter off the plants and just have a general tidy up again , possible try and wash the glass in the coming weeks.

I have a little grow light I use in the spare bedroom , I try and cover it up don't want the fuzz taking the door off looking for cannabis plants :heehee: or worse a drug gang :hate-shocked:

It does look like Ensete maurelii, Abyssinian banana. If you can keep it just frost free, in a light spot and the compost barely damp, it will survive and get going quickly in the spring. You can cut off the dead leaves if it's going to be protected from frost.
Otherwise, cut off most of the leaves, drain it as Perki describes, then wrap it in a dry material, then bubble plastic. You'll need to check it frequently for signs of new growth. Re-pot in rich compost in spring, feed and water copiously and it'll be a thing of beauty and a joy forever. (That's unless a certain GC member tells you that it's going to die because it's flowered and you bin it...:biggrin:).

Thanks both for the advice. It's in a heated greenhouse so I've just given it a bit of water now and again. I've cut off some of the dead leaves but can see new ones growing from the centre. Glad I've not killed it at least

he he, i know the feeling @Perki My greenhouse is glowing!

Installed a second water butt, cleaned out the bird feeders, trimmed back the winter plants topping the pots where my spring bulbs are starting to emerge. Also cordoned off an area of lawn where daff shoots are appearing, to stop my kids trampling all over them.

Pouring warm water and then breaking ice out of the bird baths that I forgot to empty last night. Heavy frost past couple of nights. Kept birds and rats topped up with food and warm drinking water throughout the day. Had a wander around the garden trying to decide where to make a start first when I have time to make a start:dunno::heehee:. Too cold to stay outside very long.
