WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2022

Didn't do a lot in the garden today but while in the garage I spotted an unknown box which contained unopen packets of Bosch Extra strong line for a strimmer. I thought it was worth looking for the strimmer itself and eventually found it in the shed under boxes and bags. Not only that but I found a Flymo electric rotary mower, a Dutch hoe, a gallon watering can and a set of brand new secateurs still in their original packaging (and we still haven't searched all the loft yet).
I checked out both the mower and the strimmer and they both work and more importantly didn't trip the RCD. The mower will be better for our small front lawn and my small area of grass in the rear garden. The petrol mower is rather a handful, especially with the collection bag on it and it also has to be lugged up a few steps. The strimmer will be ideal for the edges.

Just spit a pot of Lithops up and repotted them, oh the excitement.

 

I bet that was painful! I always found them weird.

 

Went out and cut the front and rear lawns with my newly found Flymo. A lot easier than the petrol mover. I tried strimming the awkward bits without a great deal of success. The strimmer is fine for weeds and tall grasses but not much good for edges. Shears make a quicker and better job. This afternoon one man went to mow, went to mow a Meadow. I used the petrol mower to do that.
The front lawn was looking terrible so I decided to core it. Impossible. I could as easily cored the slabbed path. Even my 19 stone barely made a mark on the ground. I got the hose out and dumped several hundred gallons of water on it then spiked it with the border fork. Or at least as much as I could manage. I then soaked it again until the water was lying on the surface.
Since the hose was out I did some watering of tubs and a couple of flower beds. I then put everything away before finally sowing seed on the bare spots on the newly soaked lawn.

Well as told before, I am trying to grow Strawbs and the birds have enjoyed more than the grandkids have. My pepper plants are at stage 1 of growth and have now decided to set fruit, all three of them and none on my bell pepper. My tommys have got green ones on them but again do not want to get any larger. Feeding every 7 days too. Baskets have put on a bit of growth but again all flower and no foliage. Is it me or has being a grower of plants taken a step back on me? I have tried but cannot keep the amount of patience due to having so much time on my hands. I listen to music while I potter, and then get worn out. Tell me old age gets better and not longer to cope with. So many tasks and no interest in doing them as yet. Slide that soap box away and have a nice cup of tea me thinks.

 

I repotted some Easter Cactus cutting that have been growing in the kitchen for months. Some of the new growth is shrivelling up & dropping off so I decided to repot them & return them to the kitchen.

While I was on the balcony I moved some plants around & tried to clean blackfly off the Dahlias. I've not seen so many blackfly on the balcony in years! Greenfly are not nearly as prevalent this year as most years. Not seen a Ladybird on the balcony for weeks & no Lacewings either, so far, this year. Even the Hoverflies seem to be absent this year. I have some Nasturtiums but not seen a single Cabbage White flitting around them yet this year. What's going on with the insects???

 

Yesterday and today did a lot of weeding and planted cosmos where the weeds were. By mistake I pulled up a verbena bonerences because the weeds were covering it, put it back in and it's ok.

 

It'll be fine @Logan, I've pulled up loads to replant where I want them to be. No problems .

 

Only a little weeding. I have a plant growing in my soon to be "all perennial" border and I cannot for the life of me remember what it is! And of course, the label is missing.

I'll do my best to not bug anyone here and will "google" for this type of leaf before posting in the i.d. section

I just sort of "bumbled" around the balcony today without doing much. I was trying to decide how to best redeploy my pots to free up some much needed space on the balcony. While I was deliberating we had a an extremely brief shower which drove me into the house again. I did get to move a couple of pots around but I don't think I can really free up any more space any longer.

 

We love bugs Lori..well most of them!!

Have you given your plant a name yet?

 

Dug up a lot of foxglove seedlings that were growing in the cracks of the path and put them in a seed tray for later, going to give some to my friend Marion.
