WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2022

Not much yet as I had a friend over this morning, but I did dead head the roses earlier. Also staked a Rudbeckia as it blowing a gale down here, despite enjoying full sunshine and comfortable temps.

 

More than an hour of watering - & exercise!

 

I only planted some Petrea volubilis vine seeds which arrived today in a peat pot as I would like it in The Courtyard.

 

This afternoon I went round with water and a little brush cleaning off any blackfly from the Dahlias and Zinnias. Tidied up the Day Lillies and cut back the white ones as they are well over now. The Giant Lillies are budding up well and should open around mid July. Gave the Rock Roses a haircut as they were annoying me with their untidy appearance. Watered all the pots and picked some more Strawberries. Pulled up any weeds I came across as I went.

 

Busy day today…
Bundled up cut broom and chokeberry branches, and put out for recycling.
All the fruit trees and fruit bushes had a thick mulch from the finished compost bay around the base.
Most of the finished compost bay was emptied, despite the challenge of having a dog trying to sleep in the bay as I emptied it!
Three bags of compost set aside to finish…
The hardy geraniums along the side of the house started to be cut back. Cut stems put at the base of the finished compost bay, and then covered for the evening (stoats, foxes and puppy get in there)
Dead branches cut off one of the plum trees.
Tied in the summer jasmine, white climbing rose and Passion flower against the trellis on the house.

 

Mainly at the allotment today weeding and collecting goodies.
It's still really windy so alot of staking in the garden as everything's getting blasted

 

Wow that's an impressive harvest !!!

We've had really strong winds here as well, I've had to put extra stakes in too.

 

Thanks @Upsydaisy I've been really enjoying the goodies whilst my hairs looked like an exploded cushion in this wind

 

Yesterday picked some pink currants, raspberries, loganberries, gooseberries a few blackcurrants and blueberries. Today it's been raining so can't do anything, well i could if i wanted to get wet from all the plants and trees.

 

Thought we're in for more rain around 8am but it seems to have disappeared from our forecast and we have brilliant sunshine instead.

Had planned on a relatively easy day today but as we've had some heavy rain overnight I now plan to take full advantage as the ground will be more workable.....think I may need waterproofs too as I work amongst the tall stuff!!






It was like concrete before so too good an opportunity to miss I think

 

Did some weeding and once again cut back some sneaky plants/ shrubs that were encroaching on the space of others....boy are they fast growers!!

Re-staked the Sunflowers.

Still very breezy here today but on the plus side the weeding was a lot easier due to recent rainfall

 

My Actinus austrailis/Iochroma australe Blue arrived from Germany today, rather dry and wilted but alive. I soaked it then planted it in a nice terracotta pot and left it to recuperate. It is too hot to even potter outside.

 

We had heavy overnight rain but a couple of my hanging baskets were still droopy so I watered them. I put about a litre in each one. I also made up some liquid feed for a couple of the small pots I have planted up. I moved the tray of Hemp-agrimony from my potting shed, under the lights, to the cold frame. They are coming on and need more light. We then took advantage of the wet ground and did some weeding. The boss found some, of what she thought is Rose Bay Willow herb, in my garden and pulled them up but I stopped her when she came to pull up another group of three as I planted most of my plants in groups of three. I hate it when I see her in my garden with weeds in her hands.
