After the sun sank behind the trees in the hedgerow at the bottom of my garden I tidied the little patch I've created on the old driveway into what used to be the garage.
I took some photos but haven't put them on my computer yet. I'll show them on the 'August' thread tomorrow

Then I cleaned some windows from cement dust created by the builders !

Oh and I watered the pots etc, and one Carex in the ground which is turning brown. I never water the ground unless I see a plant suffering and then I water just that one.

Watered the hanging baskets and flower pouches this evening and put up a Solitary Bee Hive. I'll see if I can encourage any visitors.

Finished repairing one of the raised beds and put the soil back. Removed 3 of the echiums, chopped up and ferried to compost heap, remembered how prickly they are. Watered as required.

This will surprise and amaze everyone I'm sure, but I've been watering today, between bouts of loudly proclaiming 'its far too hot!' and making myself refreshing cups of piping hot tea. Everything was wilting, except for the grape vine and my palm tree seedlings which are all positively thriving: I plumbed hitherto unseen levels of pettiness as to be resentful of wine and coconuts

I was delighted that my Mother-in-Law's tongue was flowering, until I googled it and realised the poor thing was probably root-bound and highly stressed. I made plans to definitely think about re-potting it as soon as the weather becomes reasonable, though I have to admit it is quite pretty and smells lovely in the meantime - I'd worry that makes me a bad person but its far too hot to contemplate morality today lol:

I'm just waiting for it to be light enough to start watering.

All our Veronicastrum have finished flowering and turned brown, despite being watered, and have had their autumn chop. The Annabelles are all turning to their autumn colours and have grown 2ft shorter than normal.

As for that word 'green', what does that mean? The last time I used the mower for cutting grass was in April but I have been using it to hoover up all the dead leaves that keep covering the ground.

Repotted some young dahlias, deadheaded, dug up some snowdrop bulbs and some snowflake bulbs, for work colleagues and watered.

Watering! Also sanded the top of the garden table so it looks serviceable again, and strimmed the straggly grass growth and around edges of patio. Just a little tidy really.

Also came across this video for reservoir watering which some might find useful -

We had some light rain drops this morning which made a few leaves feel wet, but the air was more comfortable so I cut a few things back that had finished flowering, and also removed some leaves that had shrivelled up in the heat wave.
I was hoping to do more but the blazing hot sun started to shine again and it was too hot to be out there so I gave up.

Possibly the soil is too rich, these get on better with fairly poor soil though the addition of some tomato or rose feed may help.

The one I have in the hanging basket on the balcony has produced several flowers in the last week or so but it too is growing too much foliage!

Thanks. It is in compost. My wife is a great believer in Tomorite so she has been dosing it with that.

I was amused and so glad to read it!

In lawn terms, I was brought-up the old-fashioned way of Do this, don’t do that! and, having been traumatized and entranced in equal measure by Hessayon, I can now relax with shiney!

Athough I see your digit is hiding the bit about pushing backwards and forwards. Apart from the fact that I would find it difficult to push backwards (is that an oxymoron?) I follow my mower on full lengths of the lawn.

I'm pleased I could be of assistance. :love30:
