The plan is to get all my bulbs planted today. The onion sets, garlic and shallots will be fairly easy as OH kindly cultivated most of the veg plot so the soil's nice and fluffy. I might have to pass on the daffs, tulips and crocus, though, as can't even get a fork in the ground in the borders. We've still not had enough rain to soften the soil.

Last Friday I had to remove ALL the pots & troughs on the balcony railings because of the heavy rain. At about 8.30am we had some torrential rain which lasted nearly 10 mins - I could hardly see the houses on the other side of the street for the spray caused by the torrential rain! I managed to get them all moved further in & hardly get wet at all as I did it during what turned out to be the only lull in the heavy rain all morning! Even so the saucers under the pots were all overflowing with the rainwater! This is something that happens so rarely that one year I even took photos of the overflowing saucers!!! :D

This morning I put them back on the balcony railings but I removed the remaining Geraniums & put Pansies in their place! Now the whole top of the rail has flowering Pansies! The middle bar of the railings has 3 troughs full of flowering Pansies as well & some pots of Pansies with flowers.

The Pansies my son bought me on Friday last week are all very small plug plants & there are no flowers on any of the 50 plants. One or two may have small flower buds but I shall have to wait some time before they flower.

Taken some of the grass away and planted the last of the polyanthus. Some of the plants are small but they should be alright. It was all builders sand because when the houses were built they dumped all of the waste building stuff on the corner House.

Thank you @Loofah , I forgot to say that when i made the planting holes for the polyanthus i replaced the mostly sandy soil with compost and planted in that.

Nothing today it's raining and I've got to wash my hair. But not in the rain, it makes my hair go frizzy.

I planted up Pansies & put them on the balcony railings a couple of days ago. I removed the Geraniums & put the Pansies in their place. :)

Plants moved from balcony railing to interior 20th October 2022 002.jpg As we were forecast heavy rain for the rest of the day I couldn't leave the flower pots on the railings - they would probably have been washed away!

I took this photo through the window of the balcony door.

We're very much into leaf clearing time :phew:. In the last few days I've shifted five ton bags of leaves to the compost heals and done some lawn cutting. Leaf clearing will continue into the new year as the trees are inconsiderate enough not to drop their leaves at the same time!

Mrs Shiney has been cutting back perennials and tidying annuals that are still flowering in our warm weather, which has remained in the low 20C region (reached 24C on Thursday :rolleyespink:) for the last week.

If it's dry enough today, drizzling at the moment, I shall carry on mowing. Otherwise I shall start on the lawn edges.

I have to wade through piles of acorns from the neighbours huge oak trees at the back of my garden. I might go rake some up later with all the leaves.
