First my Ivy Geraniums got covered in snow then they were frozen with the huge (for us!) drops in temps this week!

Picked the rest of my apples and put them in trays in the green house.
all the remaining tomatoes from the greenhouse are in the fridge .I've been ripening them off by putting in banana skins.
Told husband 2 month ago that eating a banana a day helped keep his Arthritis at bay and oddly enough on the plus side he confirmed that his knees were not as bad !!!!!!!

Maybe something to be said for a little white lie now and again .......for a good cause !!!!!!

Trudged across the snow to get to greenhouse. Doors frozen solid, used a small blow torch on it, no chance, trudged back to the house. Try again in a couple of days if we get above frozen solid temps.

@Balc, I had to look up hoar frost

What is hoar frost and how does it form?

I hope your Ivy Geraniums regenerate. Some plants are incredibly tough when you don't expect them to be. At least the cold weather seems to have got rid of garden pests like aphids, slugs and snails.

No hoar frost the last couple of day but as we are forecast mist at some point during the night there may well be more hoar frost tomorrow.

I popped out onto the balcony for a few minutes this morning to have a look at my poor plants - I'm going to lose practically all my Geraniums, Pelargoniums & Fuchsias on the balcony. Even the plants in the new shelving unit I wrapped up with fleece a few days ago aren't going to survive!:cry3::cry3::sad::sad: I don't know how the plants in the mini-greenhouse are fairing as I couldn't get the zippers to open this morning & the condensation on the plastic walls was frozen - I expect the plants inside will be too! :cry3:

Unfortunately I don't think they will recover. :cry3: We have had too many nights with temps far to low for them to survive this! If I'd thought of bringing them further into the balcony & putting the underneath the table they might possibly have survived but I didn't so now I've lost them! In fact they were cutting from last year that rooted on the balcony during the winter. They were in the place I thought I would put the hanging baskets. I guess I got too dulled by the warm weather of November to take seriously the pending (a couple of weeks ago) cold mass of arctic air that was forecast! I've got no one to blame except for myself for their demise. :cry3:

And plants, the slugs and aphids will be back at the first sign of warmer weather.

I traipsed around the deep snow in the garden cutting foliage for the Mrs as she now has four orders for Christmas wreathes for the weekend. They needed to be brought indoors for a day or so to get over being frozen before she can work with them.

I cut lots of gold conifer, variegated box, variegated thornless holly, ivy with flowers and Eucalyptus. My fingers were frozen by the time I was finished. I had to remove lots of loose snow and frozen snow before cutting them.

Had to go with the wife to the hospital where she had her operation a month ago. We left home around 8.30am & didn't get back till 5pm. So obviously nothing got done on the balcony - anyway it's far too cold to be outside for literally 5 mins. Twice in the past week I've been out but after 5 mins had to come back in & then it took more than an hour to get over the cold!
