I checked my Pelargoniums and Fuchsias in a perspex shelter at the side of the 'garage' and they seemed all right, although the soil in the pots was frozen. An Asparagus fern some marguerites and a big scented Pelargonium also seem fine.
My Tradescantia fluminensis all look dead. I had several pots of it. I'm hoping the roots are still alive.

We were at a village in the rainforest about 1,000 miles up the river. It just flew down out of the tree and landed on her shoulder. She put her arm to her shoulder and it hopped on. :noidea: Are they naturally unafraid of people when they're in the wild? The kid didn't seem to think it was unusual.

She went to pass it to me :rolleyespink: but I declined. :noidea:

I'm hoping to get some small jobs done in the garden. The first one is to try and get the lid of the green waste bins open. They were still frozen closed with loads of snow on top of them.

All our Pelargoniums are outside in the big coldframe ( no additional heat) Lori, I had a quick look at them the other day and despite being cut back hard a lot of them are now back in bloom.
I tend to give them a drop of water every couple of weeks at the moment but obviously I haven't given them anything whilst temps have been so low.
As the temps are on the rise from today I am hoping to open up the frame, check them over thoroughly, trim back again and water them today.:dbgrtmb:

I watch a lot of wildlife programmes including those in the Rainforest. Most wild animals have no fear of humans as there is no cause ... unless you are where animals are hunted!

That's good, i don't have the cuttings too wet, just water them in and not sitting in water, i don't water them again until they start rooting, they should be easy to root without hormone powder.

@Logan I'm bringing up a folding table to set beside a window in one room and will make sure to not water the geraniums once I've placed them there. I do assume that if the leaves droop, then I give them a little drink. I have strips of felt out the bottom of the pots and the pots sitting in plastic trays so they can bottom feed. For plants growing outside of my grow tents, I thoroughly wash those hard plastic trays that meat comes on and use them for my plants/pots. This is only for plants which will later be moved/potted out. I use nicer trays and saucers for "permanent" homes.

Today I'm going to have a look at my coleus that I had grown from cuttings. Some of those are getting alarmingly big too!

That's good @CanadianLori but i wouldn't have the stripes of felt in the bottom. With mine the leaves don't droop, when they get dry they should be alright but if not just give them a tiny amount of water because they can rot if too wet and they won't need feeding until they're growing well. If by any heat I'd keep a close eye on them if they dry out too much.I wouldn't feed the mother plants this time of year, only in the growing season.

Feeding the birds again today. They are hardly touching the fatballs in the cage but they eat the ones I split and put on the bird table.

That's what I found out yesterday.
They are too lazy to cling on to the feeder, but put them out on a table or some such and they are gone in not time.

Lori ,the difference between yours and Logan's could depend on their roots status. I might have mistakenly thought that yours were rooted, albeit young, plants and Logans are obviously just in the cutting stages and by the sound of it have yet to set roots.

If yours have roots then a little watering every now and then ,especially if kept indoors' would imo be beneficial. I agree wth Logan that if still in the young cutting stage then too much water will soon rot the rootless stems.

I was out on the balcony for 10 mins this morning as it was a little warmer (??) than days passed & I took the fleece of the the new shelving unit. ALL the plants are frosted! :cry3:, none have survived! :cry3:But perhaps the Fuchsias 'Beacon' may return in the summer but the Geraniums & the Pelargoniums no chance! :cry3:

On a more upbeat note, when I opened the door of the mini-greenhouse I found that all the plants inside looked to be alright! The extra plastic bag over the top of it must have been sufficient to ward off the terribly low temps of the last week! :dbgrtmb::yes:

My Tradescantia fluminensis all look dead. So are mine! But I find they seed everywhere on the balcony, there are often seedlings coming up in pots that are a long way from where the plants are growing. I have a couple of plants in the living room anyway - so not all is lost! This is the first time in the years they have been growing outside that they have been killed back so much.
