WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2022

That happened to me a couple of years ago. I never had success but not sure Clematis would like it here anyway in the Summer.

 

Blacksmith came today and installed custom handrails and a balustrade. Once he had finished I went out and attached a 70mm fence post to the brackets I had him weld in and screwed the original wooden fence to that.

 

As requested.

I've searched the garden top to bottom and I still can't find one of the four panels that fell off my greenhouse... Eunice must have nicked it. Its only acrylic but I keep seeing that scene from the Omen in the back of my mind

I didn't do much else, though am thrilled to report that my four-year-old plum tree is covered in blossoms for the first time ever

Moved into a house a couple of weeks ago and I've been familiarizing with the garden. Quite a large piece of ground in a shady part of the garden is covered with some form of low growing weed. Took me a while to discover that it is creeping buttercup! And quite a sizable amount of it too. I think it has been left to spread for around 3-4 months! Perfect conditions for it, a nice moisture retaining clay soil. So I've spent a fair amount of the afternoon digging them out with a trowel one by one. The roots were up to 6 inches long and could be pulled cleanly out of the soft wet clay. Got about one tenth of them out so far. From what I've seen they look quite pretty when they are in flower.

 

Re-laying some slabs. They have sunk quite a bit since I originally put them down - I suspect this is because I simply placed them on top of compacted soil. This time I'm using a 10 mm aggregate and cement mix - put in dry to give me plenty of time to get the levels right. The rain will do the rest. I'm also going to brush some sand into the cracks between the slabs - as they do for block paving - to stop them wiggling about.

Took me 3 hours to get to this stage - need some more cement and aggregate for the final slabs - which I will purchase tomorrow.

I hope to have a day of dodging the rain , but will probably just end up getting wet, and having a thorough check and clean up of the lawn and borders around the greenhouse as I am still noticing bits of glass catching the sun. If it's not done now it could get covered or sink down and get forgotten until...... Ouch!!!

 

I have a Fremontodendron California Glory to plant (arrived yesterday) but there is about 4" of fresh snow on the ground this morning, with more forecast.

 

Nothing today it's raining with a forecast for snow. So it's no use starting something if I can't finish it, like emptying the compost bin that I have got to do.
