Its been raining here up to this afternoon. I been getting the pots of lilies out of the cold frame looks like the cold frame had it the top feel off , I don't really use it anyway main just for storing the lilies over winter so I'd probably get rid.

Fertilised the lawn which needed watering in ironically no rain forecast now. Bit of weeding in the front and sprayed a few dandelions which I think I've tried to pull out numerous times. I took some cutting as well missed a stem on the rambling rose Ghislaine de feligonde its a fantastic rose so worth the try, also did some leonotis cutting.

Can't remember the last time it rained here and the ground is crusting over but it's too early to get the sprinkler out. I've spent a lot of time digging out strawberry weed (potentilla reptans) which is a major problem in one area of the garden. I have to dig around each plant and loosen the soil down to about 9", put my hand in as far as I can and grip the root and then gently pull directly upwards. As long as I can grip past the second root nodule I can usually pull out the full roots that tend to be at least 12" deep. There's a limited amount of that work that I can do in one go otherwise my back will go on strike.

It's always a relief waking up and finding it's not as bad as it could be!

I did say I can't remember :old: :roflol:. Actually it was very heavy for about 15 minutes but you'll see from the early morning photo on Saturday that it left just enough water on the greenhouse roof to ice it over but the patio was dry.

The rain didn't seem to do anything for the ground :noidea:

We consider 15 minutes of heavy rain on our clay soil (au naturel) a blessing! :love30:

Spent an hour this morning planting up the three Dipladenas I got the other day into one pot, re-arranged two Verbena in an urn on its side pot, re-potted two Hibiscus rosa-sinensis in bigger pots and took photos. Got T'other Half to cut down Plumbago to half, cart the pots and compost around for me, and of course sweep up after me. I will have him water everything later. :dbgrtmb:

Little to do in the garden except feed the birds. I have spent about £100 on Fat Ball, Dried Meal Worms, Suet blocks and Wild Bird Seed over the winter.
I always mist the plants and cuttings on the heat mats and today I started more Sweet Pea seeds soaking, with a view to sowing tomorrow.

As much weeding as I could manage before my knees complained too much. The clay soil was setting harder even as I worked....such lovely sunshine.

Just some lightweight Apartheid. My giant Sunflower seedlings are allowed out during the day, gourds are not, and cucumbers even less.

Now, it just happens that Sunflower and cucumber seedlings are totally identical at this stage and gourds could also possibly be similar. I confidently selected the Sunnies from the meters of unlabelled seedling pots, leaving the Cucus behind. By midday half of the Sunnies started to look very Cucumberish so went back in.

Another round of inspection, and a near- 100% Sunny was identified. Out it went until I noticed something very much like flower buds in the leaf joints... not a Sunny behaviour at all.

Tomorrow I will line them up in an identification parade. Things shouldn't be a problem later on, if it's 4m tall and has a yellow flower, it's not a miniature cucumber and so on. But right now it's a bit challenging. :)
