WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2022

Carried on with the weeding . Tidied up 7 pots of Hostas all at varying stages of new growth and placed them in the centre of their islands of water which protects them from slug/ snail invasions.

Also took loads of Wallflower cuttings as I will probably discard a few of the older ones this year as they are become a tad woody..

 

Do I hear ....labelling issues @Selleri !!

I'm not entirely guilt free, I do have a couple of pots that I can't identify but on the whole I'm pleased to report I've done a lot better this year......so far!

 

Thanks. That just reminded me to order more labels which I have just done.

 

Just keeping the bedding plants growing by pinching out the growing tips of the cosmos and dead heading the daffs then gave them some chicken manure pellets then watered them.

 

Oh no, absolutely no labelling issues this year!

Zero mislabelled pots (apart from those with last year's sticky tape still attached, but it's kids' play to recognise that Basil is not Opuntia Santa Rita) and thanks to The Teenager's insistence, some pots have (had) correct names on them. Before potting on, that is.

Thanks for mentioning slugs @Upsydaisy . Must have a killing spree this weekend, the new soft growth everywhere is calling out for them.

 

Just been sowing seeds, so cucumber, melon, squashes and courgettes along with Mina lobata and Ipomoea.

 

I'm up at my Lincolnshire house currently, I haven't done any gardening today as busy doing carpentry work outside BUT I did watch as the farmer sowed brassica's in the field next to my garden and potatoes just along the road. I should be okay for spuds and greens in a few months time, just nip into the fields and help myself?

 

Potted on some of the cosmos and put them in the greenhouse.

 

As all my seedlings are now in the greenhouse I've had to rig up some shading to cover the inside roof from the pm sun.
With all my established plants filling the two big coldframes + the smaller one, it's so much easier having all the seedlings in one place now....just need to make sure that they don't fry!!

 

I did some planting today:
2 x Aubretia Audrey Light Blue
2 x Dianthus Silver Star
4 x Drumstick Primula Lilac

I've been potting up Toms & Cucumbers, they are enjoying the sunshine.
Also in the Pic are Sunflowers, Hollyhocks and Potatoes in bags.

 

I sowed some Sweet peas both in tubes in the potting shed and some outdoors in planters with Sweet peas already planted out.
Later in the afternoon, I took delivery of a Photinia 'Red Robin' which I ordered after seeing Johnathan Black's one in the other thread. Saw it and thought, "got to have one".

 

Unloaded potting compost from car and carried to greenhouse. Weeded at the back of the greenhouse and pulled all the Forget Me Nots from down the side and then spent a couple of hours thinning out the Phyllostachys nigra.

 

The weather has picked up so thankfully I'm back in business garden wise.
I've been outside all day which is lovely. Lawns done, I tried some boiling water on the weeds on the driveway this morning and by the afternoon they were brown

Pricked out Bunny tail grass, cynoglossum 'mystery rose' & Osteopermum 'sky and ice' all new to me this year so I'm pleased with germination.
All but 1 of the new Roses planted earlier in the year are putting on new growth.
I had a Magnolia stellata in a pot since purchasing last year that has remained a twig in all that time. Scratched the twig for any signs of life and it was green so put it in the border last week and it has sprouted new shoots already. Just goes to show how unhappy it was.
Now I'm shattered and good for nothing except some rhubarb crumble and custard

 

Had a fairly productive day for a change, grass/moss done, daffodils deheaded,weeds gone and have learnt that what I thought were snowdrops are actually white blue bells... didn't know they were a thing but I have them, and also my aloe Vera plant has a flower growing... again I didn't know it happened but it must be getting enough sun.
